About 145 000 miners across Pennsylvania’s anthracite region halted work today for higher wages and shorter hours. All 357 collieries idle as locals vote for a permanent strike unless operators concede. Hazleton convention to decide continuation. officials warn of longer, sharper conflict than 1900.

He held stock in two failed companies and faces potential claims totaling over 1.5 million and 52,571 respectively.
Upton Bowman shot himself in a Cafe Opera room in Ti ff in after a drinking bout. He died within an hour. Bowman, married with four children, was reportedly deserted by his wife who now lives in Toledo. For ten years prior, his wife never spoke to him.
