In Chicago on May 11 union drivers resumed deliveries to all struck firms. Feed teamsters justify the move as humane to prevent horses from starving, while others call it a subterfuge masking reluctance to strike. The board agent warned of consequences as the issue continues.
Reports from Pittsburg indicate a catastrophic railroad wreck on the Pennsy line leaving 20 dead and over 100 injured. Victims named include V. L. Crabbe and Hart in Pittsburg with several others identified from local cities. The tragedy prompted emergency response and ongoing investigations.
In the House of Commons Premier Balfour warned that Russia’s progress toward the Afghanistan frontier and railway expansion threaten Britain. He urged centralized fleet and army to defend the empire, noting invasion of India was a longstanding military concern and must be faced.

Others include Robert Ditto John Sawyer Andrew Spahr Ora Lambert William McDonald Fred Carey and F H Newton with sentences ranging from two to fifteen years for arson manslaughter grand larceny assault shooting to kill and embezzlement.
Guthrie Oklahoma May 11 reports death toll from last night's Snyder tornado likely over 100 with 85 recovered and more than 150 injured. Rescue and grave-digging crews from Oklahoma City and neighboring towns work amid widespread devastation as officials appeal for relief and aid.
New York May 11 A new order requires President James W Alexander Vice Presidents James H Hyde and Gage E Tarbell of the Equitable Life Assurance Society to appear in the New York State Supreme Court on Monday for examination due to a technical error. Emil H Neumer a clerk and Thomas Lobley Jr of this city are arrested charged with complicity with Sam Lobley who was taken into custody in Spragueville Pa for fraudulently obtaining a 27000 loan on a policy alleged to have been stolen from the society vaults.
Tokyo reports two Russian warships from Vladivostok were seen off Aomori in northern Honshu on Tuesday. The French government instructed officials in Indo China to monitor coasts and warn belligerent ships to respect neutrality. Paris notes Japan’s actions mirror France regarding neutrality and stresses that coal purchases by Russians were minor and chiefly from Germany and England.
A May 9 dispatch to Emperor Nicholas from General Linevitch reports Russian cavalry repelling Japanese attacks along the Podysoutsche to Shihouza line on May 7 and 8. The text notes a May 9 cavalry advance toward the Shahetsu mines where Japanese forces were in retreat under artillery and a turning movement westward of the area.

Henry H. Hampton, chemistry instructor at the University of Cincinnati, was blinded when an experiment with potassium manganate and sulfuric acid exploded in a lab. Another worker washed away the acid, and Dr C R Holmes examined Hampton before transferring him to a hospital for eye care.
A devastating cloudburst drenched Cincinnati causing one death, several injuries, and extensive property destruction. Widespread washes flooded tracks and streets, knocked out power, and halted city life as rain and wind tore through the area.
Henry Webber a 44 year old butcher of 654 West McMicken avenue died after grabbing a downed telephone and electric feed wire during a storm at Elm and McMicken. A large black dog accompanying him was killed instantly. Webber died about ten minutes after reaching City Hospital despite efforts by Patrol 5 and driver Conway.
In May Stern & Co. at Fifth and Elm seven large plate glass windows blew in causing about 2000 dollars in damage. A 15 year old stenographer John Ashby was struck on Fifth street and severed artery in his left wrist. He was taken to hospital and later dismissed. Additional injuries and near misses were reported as nearby windows shattered at Saxony Building and Leisler's dressmaking shop. H A Jones store on West Fifth lost a large plate glass pane with about 100 dollars damage. Hill washout disrupted Vine street north of 21657 with debris and tramway obstruction. Streetcars resumed after crews cleared the tracks.
