The strike arose over pay as Stirling fulfills a Cramp Shipbuilding Company contract to produce boilers for cruisers for the Russian Government, and the firm could not risk a prolonged dispute.
Governor Bushnell promised a large delegation of freight conductors and other B and O Railroad employees will seek a pardon for Conductor Moore who is serving a ninety day sentence in Plymouth Ohio for assaulting attorney Gonsaulis who attempted to ride Moore's train.
Paducah Kentucky May in Iliinois Central Railroad shops Fred Stewart with both legs amputated sued seeking 25 000 and won a 10 000 damage verdict from the circuit court jury against the railroad company.

Rushville Indiana May 9 special dispatch reports Harry Striker son of a Noble county farmer drove along Greenwood pike when a thunderclap frightened his horse. It bolted and fell from the bridge into a twelve foot bank, breaking the horse's neck. The buggy shafts broke but the vehicle stood on the bridge and Striker leaped free uninjured.
Special Dispatch reports Clarksburg residents heatedly discuss lamp use as gas costs reach 2 per 1000 cubic feet and electric charges follow a similar pattern. A new natural gas firm offers lighting for about one fourth the current price, prompting potential switch.
A Washington dispatch says Admiral Dewey aboard the Olympia will visit Boston to receive a grand official welcome. He strolled the corridors and golf links with Secretary of the Treasury Gage Senator Fairbanks and Mr John C New of Indianapolis. A caddy asked for the time and the President replied Just 4 o'clock. He dined with Mrs McKinley and the officials.

Choate wife of the U S ambassador will present Mrs Bates and her daughter Miss Bates wife and daughter of Lt Col Alfred E Bates military attaché, along with Mrs William M Osborne Consul General of the United States in London Mrs John B Mott of Indiana and Miss Ingraham.
A deadly Mississippi incident at Okolona ended with four men dead. Dr William Murphy clashed with Charles D Clarke over a bill. Clarke fatally stabbed him. Murphy’s son Howard then shot Clarke. Walter Clarke killed Howard Murphy in a duel with pistols.
