New York May 8 Dr Nicholas Murray Butler Republican nominee hopeful releases a public statement of seventeen points. He calls for executive budget reform end of autocracy and tighter government economy. He urges taxing restraint, stricter oversight of big business and measures to curb living costs and wartime debts.
Governor hopeful Roscoe C. McCulloch announced a statewide speaking tour starting Tuesday with a Toledo address at noon. Planned appearances include Norwalk Kiwanis, Wyandot Republican Club in Upper Sandusky, Medina Kiwanis, and Kent Republican Club. Seven workers were killed instantly in a gelatine mix house explosion at the Aetna Explosive Company in Emporium Pennsylvania at 3 PM. Patrick Burke, the only identified victim, was driving a car from the storeroom when the blast occurred. The detonation shattered the plant and shook the countryside for miles. six of the deceased were local residents.
Trustees of the Christian Church in Flemingburg Kentucky received a letter with seventy five cents and a note signed Anonus. The writer said a social at the church years ago left unpaid supper and offered twenty five cents plus compound interest to settle the debt.
Washington May 8 The budget of expenses of the League of Nations from its organization up to July 1 will total about 1 250 000 dollars. The figures will be presented to the League Council at its Rome meeting. This sum covers direct and indirect expenditures including preliminary costs of commissions and other bodies marking the complete organization period of the League machinery.

The case ties Nickey Arnstein and Nickey Cohen to the crime while detectives chase leads to Cincinnati and Cleveland. A separate report says Benjamin M. Binkowitz was killed by hired assassins after resisting surrender of stolen securities.
New York officials report over 100 million dollars a month spent on luxuries in Manhattan. Collector William H. Edwards says receipts from luxury taxes rise daily, with ice cream sodas and cheap trinkets contributing more tax than diamonds and furs. TRIEST May 8 Captain Gabriele d Annunzio today captured the Italian steamship Baro Fejervary bound from Triest to Catania with grain. He sent two anti submarine craft to make the capture in Quarnero Bay. The captain was ordered to proceed to Fiume.
Washington May 8 Senate Republican leaders postpone the peace resolution calling until Tuesday due to the absence of several senators.
James R. Clark, U. S. District Attorney, was congratulated by friends on the birth at his home yesterday of a new American citizen weighing ten pounds.
Senator Johnson released a telegram from Meyer Lissner alleging Hoover’s California primary campaign spent at least twenty thousand dollars on hired workers and twenty thousand more on mailing literature. Lissner claimed Los Angeles labor lined up at headquarters for pay and accused the Hoover group of ties to the old Southern Pacific machine while challenging exposed campaign records. Johnson also publicized his reply criticizing Hoover on the League of Nations covenant and noting Hoover’s shift toward supporting reservations as a candidate.
