The Dade County Grand Jury charged the Miami Police Department with underworld alliances and despotism. It cited the pursuit of a petty thief by an officer who allegedly killed four Black men, and noted witnesses disappeared, hindering cases now largely barred by statute of limitations.
In Balboa Canal Zone on May 7, violence between Rochester crew members Nitro and local police and civilians injured twelve people including six sailors and one officer. Ensign Donahue was beaten and later released. a sailor from Nitro was stabbed and may die. Police fired into the air to disperse the crowd as investigations seek cause linked to a sailor refusing to pay a taxi fare.
American Barge Lines inaugurated package shipment service by barge from Pittsburgh to New Orleans along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. First trip reached Cincinnati at Front and Harriet streets with two tons of soap jams and preserves aboard for New Orleans. Barge convoys run three times monthly, two weeks down to New Orleans and three weeks back. The firm, now owning Inland Waterways and several barges, operates five tow boats fifty all steel barges and seventeen covered barges.
An Atlanta to New York air mail plane operated by Pitcairn Aviation Corporation crashed on Stone Mountain near Stone Mountain Georgia shortly after takeoff due to poor visibility causing the pilot to lose his way.

The Crosley Radio Corporation announced it will buy Station WSAI from the United States Playing Card Company in Norwood. WSAI and WLW, both 6000 watt stations in the district, may be upgraded to higher power. The sale price is 100000.
About 3,000 mine executives from across the country gathered for the American Mining Congress opening at Music Hall. H S Gilbertson urged intensive local management to improve mine safety and labor relations, warning against relying on wages or freight changes alone to fix the industry. George McCullen, a 26 year old black man who killed two Middletown police officers, died in Middletown Hospital after three attempts to escape the electric chair. He had shot Patrolmen Harold Roth and Elmer Crout during a gravel pit whisky incident and fought officers while being moved to Middletown. He was wounded multiple times during escapes and finally died from bullet wounds. Authorities protected the town from a lynching mob and moved him to Hamilton Jail for safety.
In Newport Kentucky a man known as Uncle Charley Blesch 59 admits giving gifts to Carey J Aulick s wife including a peanut with a doll a turtle shaped paper weight hairpin holders and a handkerchief box He says the affection was to console Mrs Aulick for her husband s drinking and denies any deeper motive The case seeks 100 000 for alienation of affections and is being tried across the river after admission of meetings with Mrs Aulick in the kitchen witnesses testify to his consoling acts while Mrs Aulick defends Blesch saying her feelings toward her husband remained unchanged.
The army dredge Navesink sank after a collision with the freighter Swinburne at 4:50 a.m. near Quarantine. Of 47 aboard, 18 are missing. Twenty-five survivors were saved by a Standard Oil tanker crew. Three men were ashore at the time: Capt. Charles Petersen, Chester E. Phillips, and Martin Bender.
Tokyo reports severe fighting near Tsinan with Chinese Nationalists attacking Japanese guards in the foreign commercial area. London papers report the British government plans to demand Prince Carol of Romania depart after a week long Surrey visit. Carol admitted responsibility for a manifesto seeking Romania’s throne, and police were dispatched to Godstone to question the prince before he returned to London.
