Chief Executive hails a victorious pair as they write a new chapter in American aviation, praising their achievement and impact on the industry.
Theodore Thomas widow finds dream realized as the May Festival opened with the rebuilt Music Hall organ. The audience, led by Cincinnatians Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell, applauded Fritz Reiner and the chorus in a jubilee celebration honoring the festival founder. The intermission recalled an ancient spring day as attendees praised a program that surpassed past festivals.
Mrs. Florentine Kirbert died at her 1135 Gest Street home aged 91. She was mother to August Kirbert longtime municipal court clerk and a Republican leader with children Mrs. John Meyer Mrs. John Ruehlman and Eric Kirbert. Funeral at her home per her wishes. she belonged to St. Mark's German Evangelical Church.
Verner Alexanderson, six, was located unharmed in a wooded cottage along the Indian River near Theresa in Jefferson County. He telephoned his mother from Watertown after detectives traced the abduction to two men who rented a cottage and left a woman caretaker named Grinnell with the boy.
Two United States naval aviators from the air squadron battle fleet based at North Island were killed when a Voight observation plane on a practice flight crashed in the Sweetwater back country near San Diego California.
Representative Graham of Illinois says he will introduce in December a bill to prohibit ships from carrying and serving liquor to passengers. Mrs. Cecil Ferguson aged 35 of 2418 Kenilworth avenue Norwood died at General Hospital from injuries after a collision with a car driven by Walter C Dock of Harris and Poplar avenues Norwood Dock escaped injury and was arrested for reckless driving Bond set at 100 and he to appear in Mayor Noltes court Ferguson was driving the car and her husband sustained only minor bruises their son uninjured The crash occurred at Forest and Kenilworth avenues Norwood.
In Wayne County Pennsylvania a gunfight at a remote Equinunk home ended when George Knapp special officer was killed and Jack Curran county detective wounded. Walter Decker shot himself after killing Knapp and wounding Curran as Curran and Curran approached the building to seize a still. Curran drove for help despite injuries.
Unidentified man about 40, well dressed, with dark coat and striped trousers, found floating in the Ohio River below Constance, Boone County. A silver watch marked with “S” found on him. No coroner in Boone County since two years. magistrate as acting coroner had the body moved to Burlington.
Mrs. Anna Maria Chetlain, once named by Abraham Lincoln as postmistress of Rockford Mill, died in Montreal at age 87 after twenty five years residence there. Widow of General Augustus Louis Chetlain, she survived by family and noted her late husband’s Civil War service and later government roles.
State Prohibition Director Palmer Canfield flew from Miller Field to inspect the rum fleet off the New Jersey coast. With Lt. Robert Burtt at the controls he found airplanes can fight the practice and declared the flight a step toward the fleet's death.
John Howard Parnell died in Dublin at age 60. Born in 1884 he served as MP for South Meath from 1895 to 1900. He married Olivia Isabella Smythe in 1907 and is survived by one son.

They flew from New York via New Jersey Dayton St Louis Tucumcari reaching Tucumcari at dawn. They plan a 48 hour world duration record from Rockwell Field and later aim to fly around the world.
New York May 3 Lieutenants MacReady and Kelly in the T-2 crossed the continental United States nonstop, covering an estimated 2700 to 2800 miles at over 100 mph. Major Weaver hailed their safe arrival and noted the huge fuel load and perilous takeoff from Mitchel Field. They set a new non stop record for heavier than air machines, surpassing prior Atlantic attempts and other aircraft records.
Manila reports survivors recount the wreck of the British bark Amy Turner off Guam on March 27. Captain and his wife stayed hand in hand as the ship went down. 9 crew members died. Eleven crew escaped in two boats, surviving 28 days at sea before reaching Surigao and Manila.
A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order halting Herbert Sease's execution in Baxter County Arkansas. Sease, convicted of murder and sentenced to die in the electric chair, claims Klansmen predominated the grand and trial juries. The stay follows a habeas corpus petition filed yesterday.
Army pilots Lieutenants Oakley G. Kelly and John A. MacReady completed the first nonstop cross country flight in the T-2 from Hampstead New York to Rockwell Field San Diego covering about 2700 miles in 26 hours 50 minutes. Crowds cheered as the aviators landed and were carried on shoulders amid bouquets and applause.
