A Covington and Kenton County social season highlights a Day Nursery fundraiser hosted by Mr. and Mrs. John Herman and the Whitehouse families. The Covington Woman's Club plans a musical department with charter members. Social events include garden parties, piano recitals, and bridge exhibitions, with notable guests such as Miss Louise Ryder and Miss Mary Elizabeth Crigler.
The wedding occurred Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Hunt home in Briar Cliff Miami Park. Miss Stacy wore ivory satin with ancestral lace while Mr. Keith, of Maysville, and guests included family from Cincinnati and Lexington. After a supper, the couple left for Central Kentucky and will reside at the Keith home in Maysville.
Mr and Mrs Philip Werthner conclude their season with a recital by advanced pupils. Grace Haines and Sarah Benedict won pianistic honors while Mrs W H Tarr Jr and Misses Norma White Myron Swan Marie Warwick Eugenia Powers sang. Mme Marguerite Melville Lisznie wska, pianist and Conservatory tutor, will join Symphonic concerts next season and tour Europe.
The Santa Maria Girls from the Springer Institute Cathedral presented a year end program directed by Miss Anna M. Lucas elocution teacher. The program included the playlet Distractions written by Lucas along with humorous readings vocal selections and dances by Rosenberger Shearer Lamonce Marshall and Mannies. Mrs Clara Weber led the piano accompaniment.
On the evening of June 30 Miss Beulah Davis presented pupils in a piano forte recital. Participants included Marjorie Bardin John Phair James Roberts Marie Fiedler Joseph A Segal Delma Forg Ralph Roberts Emerson Hilliard Helen Nesper Helen Wehman Mildred Rosenfelder Margaret Spence Joseph Jorling Louise Abbihl Anna Phair and Cecelia Uhl.
Master classes at the College of Music started last week for six weeks drawing pupils from Los Angeles to New York. Giuseppe Campanari and Clarence Adler bring East Coast students while Charles Heinroth begins an extensive organ course. Faculty members including Albino Gorno and Mme Louise Dotti prepare for a busy summer term as Durst travels in Spain ahead of next season.
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announced a stellar lineup for the upcoming season with Erika Morini, Austrian born violinist, joining as a featured soloist. Morini will perform using Maud Powell’s Guadagnini violin, a guitar like instrument gifted by H Godfrey Turner after Powell’s influence. Morini’s rise is noted as a remarkable achievement in her musical family.
An opening night incident at the Zoo during Lucia drew chatter as a white peacock near the theater reportedly became jealous of Marie Valle the Opera Company barytone. The bird’s loud cries broke the second act whenever Valle appeared, prompting amused audience speculation.
Emil Heermann concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and head of violin at the College of Music leaves with Mrs. Heermann for their Wisconsin summer cottage where they will stay until late August.
Miss Leota Coburn praised for a well trained singing voice at a Monday recital. Soprano Madame Lillian Wiesike and violinist Hazel Jean Kirk performed for students on Thursday. Weeks of student demonstrations and teacher recitals preceded two July twilight and piano recitals. Notable faculty and lecture leaders include Dr Edgar Stillman Kelley and Mrs Mary McClure O'Hara.
William O Meyer presented a recital with Norma Reiss Pauline Peters Mille Venosa Howard Geerin Julia Kelly Alma Meyer Clara Hartman Bertha Gossman Elise Flisik Mayme Schmidt Meyer Emmet Burke Thomas Reed Alyce Marx Edith Wicks Natalie Molloy Marie Martz Gertrude Witham Loretta Cowens and Frank O Bryan at the Woman s Club Auditorium. Julia and piano students performed for Miss Florence Moran. Charles J Young showcased juvenile students at his residence assisted by George Gohs and Stanley Schneider. Miss Stella Wehr plans July 8 piano recital at Price Hill Library Auditorium featuring Eleanora Stegemeier Florence Gates and others.
The Woman's City Club Workshop Theater Committee presented George Bernard Shaw Arms and the Man at the Little Playhouse in Walnut Hills. Cincinnatians Edwin Beryl Ruth Allen Verne Fitzpatrick Albert Thompson William Handley Sarah Oliver Harriet Ramsey and William Ramsey performed to enthusiastic audiences over last night and Friday night.
An advertisement touts canthrax as a simple inexpensive shampoo that cleanses scalp and hair, removes dandruff and oil, leaving hair bright soft and fluffy. It instructs dissolving a teaspoonful in hot water to make a full cup of shampoo liquid for full scalp application.
Mrs. Kate Richards O'Hare Socialist lecturer was seized by a mob in Twin Falls and taken to Montello Nevada. Nine men are reported under arrest there, and the governor of Idaho has been asked for protection as O'Hare seeks to return and press charges.
Sheriff H. R. Sherman and Mayor P. W. McRoberts reported receiving a telegram from Otto Branstetter of the National Socialist party urging the immediate arrest of alleged criminals to prove Americanism. The message claimed a million Socialist citizens await such action and stressed upholding law and order.
Frank P. O'Hare of Girard Kansas husband and manager for Mrs Kate Richards O'Hare says in a telephoned report from Pittsburg that several attempts to abduct his wife have occurred to stop her lectures and that the Twin Falls Idaho kidnapping last night was a deliberate success. He claims he can name the abductors and says they are tools of a Chamber of Commerce in a leading role.
A Minnesota city confrontation arose as an unidentified organizer alleged opposition to a female lecturer's tours. He declined to name the men, saying they were American Legion members, and Twin Falls authorities reportedly knew their identities.
Kate Richards O Haire, once of Kansas City Kansas and later St. Louis, edited The Buzz Law and ran for Congress in 1910 on the Socialist ticket. During World War I she campaigned on antiwar street corners, was arrested in South Dakota for sedition, convicted in Bismarck, and sentenced to five years in Missouri State Prison at Jefferson City.
In Smyrna on July 1 a Greek benzine supply depot and ammunition store exploded and burned. Several soldiers and civilians were killed and many injured as fires destroyed houses in the disaster.
Mrs. Kennon Dunham will head the local board for the Federated Women's Clubs convention set for the fourth week in October in Cincinnati. The Executive Board and appointed chairmen handle venues, accommodations, transportation, decorations, entertainments, badges, press, printing, and funds for the Altamont Hospital and Home for Incurables. The Sunshine Circle and monthly refreshments for Home for Incurables inmates continue under Mrs. Louis Wolf.
Under Ruth No. 16 U O T S Mrs D Heyn Acting Chairman the Soldiers Welfare Committee continues work through the summer with outing luncheons planned.
The Girls' Club of Klotter Review No 287 will meet at Nora Remers 623 Riddle Road on July 7.
The first Geneva Delegation meeting was held last Tuesday in the gymnasium. Delegation songs were rehearsed and plans laid for stunt night. Miss Helen L Keil, General Secretary, will leave July 1 for Oxford Ohio after a week’s visit at Norwood Center. Miss Elma Bennett left June 25 for Cherry Grove. Mrs Agnes Colley has left for the Kentucky mountains to serve as a home missionary under the Methodist Board. Helen Campbell, Physical Director, spent the weekend at Oxford Ohio and is now at Vacation Cottage Epworth Heights in charge of recreation. A group of high school girls stayed at the cottage. The first jayride of the year occurred Wednesday evening.
William Nelson Woman's Relief Corps No. 14 will present a flag to the Girl Scouts of Christ Church on July 4 at Camp Procter. Rev. Mr Blodgett Past Commander of Ohio will deliver an address. Curvis Carpe a World War veteran will speak. During July and August the corps will meet monthly at Memorial Hall first Tuesday each month.
Lieutenant Arthur Emerson wowed spectators at Coney Island with a loop the loop atop his plane and a perilous ascent using a rope ladder between aircraft. He later parachuted to ground as 506 pounds of fireworks lit the sky, while plans include a new bicycle stunt next year. Emerson, a Texas rancher born in England, travels with Teddy Khanon piloting and J G Ingram on the other plane. Performances continue today and tomorrow at 4 o clock with fireworks each night.
