A probate court filing seeks a guardian for Amelia Dixon 1 aged 50s or 60s amid concerns of influence by a prominent Cincinnati attorney. Dixon, widow of Walter Dixon, resides at 2536 Halstead and controls about 45 000 in realty and 50 000 in personal property.

Delegates argue about intangible property, real estate costs, and impacts on railroad and farm taxes while debates mention income, inheritance taxes, and state university funding.
General Black head of the civil service commission asked Congress for a 3000 dollar appropriation to send agents to Kentucky and other Southern states to investigate political activity. He acknowledged correspondence with Alexander Revell chief Roosevelt committee chair about postmasters and other federal employees.

Five men died in a late May 1 explosion at Jefferson avenue docks on the Cuyahoga river. The victims Louis Gale Frank Gale Felix Boucher Nelson Le Vere and Albert Marquise were Great Lakes Towing employees. A statement by Maurice Leon counsel for the Prince de Bearn signals a move to set aside the will of Ross R. Winans of Baltimore with an estate valued at about 10 million dollars. The will left 600000 to Dorothy Bateman a young woman met last summer 350000 to the lawyer who drew the will and 200000 in trust for the testator's son Thomas's children Caston and Beatrice none for the grandchildren. Leon said Baltimore correspondents informed him the will was probated without De Bearn family notice raising the possibility that Thomas R Winans may also challenge the will. He added the documents filed yesterday reflect the testator's sober judgment.
Eight Roosevelt delegates at large, elected yesterday, decide to vote independently at the Chicago convention after two conferences. They rescind a prior pledge to support Roosevelt and will act on their own responsibility, despite Roosevelt’s request to back Taft. Taft backers call for a recount of delegates and district votes to show true voter intent.
In Boston on May 1 the row centers on whether eight delegates pledged to Roosevelt are morally and legally bound to back Taft at Chicago. Five newly chosen delegates say they will not release from their pledge and plan to vote for Roosevelt regardless of Taft’s preferential request.
