In Peking the amended Chinese republic constitution grants the President sweeping powers. The document, drafted by a March constitutional convention, allows the President to appoint and dismiss officials, declare war, conclude peace, and control the army and navy, with required legislative approval for certain measures and promul gation by a three fourths vote with Administrative Council consent.
Cleveland clocks moved forward one hour in line with a new city ordinance adopting Eastern time. Businesses, railroads, and interurban lines will adjust timetables to the new schedule. nearby Youngstown Canton and Conneaut also begin operating on Eastern time.
Dis notifies that six people died in a Lake Ontario storm that wrecked three schooners and a tug. The William Jamieson sank near midlake. Captain John McCullough and his family perished, while one cook survived. The Keewatin and Julia B Merrill collided. Keewatin beached, Merrill towed to Kingston. The sole Middletown street car line, a single tiny car known as the cigarette car, between the C H D Railroad and the Big Four, was sold this afternoon to Isaac Silverman. The line has operated about thirty years and will run on a half hour schedule under new ownership.
In Cleveland Ohio on April 30 Ralph Lanning age 24 lost control of his motorcycle with his brother in law L R Carpenter. He fell in front of a closely following delivery truck and was run over, the accident described as the indirect cause by the bike he had owned a few months.
Washington April 30 Miss Eleator Randolph Wilson youngest daughter of the President and Mrs Wilson will marry William G McAdoo secretary of the treasury on May 7 in the Blue Room of the White House. The guest list includes families and officials. the East Room will not be used.
Former President William H. Taft has a toe injury and his doctor orders him to stay at home for a period. The report comes from New Haven Connecticut dated April 30.
