In Philadelphia Mrs. Clotilda Cohen 85 was shot by her grandson Henry B. Cohen who then shot himself dying in hospital. Police say the act stemmed from sudden insanity. Henry had recent ties to Chicago lithography and was well regarded at home and in clubs. His father Charles Cohen presided over the Chamber of Commerce.
Rear Admiral Moore reported that the waterlogged submarine could not be raised with available gear. The 21 crew were presumed dead as the vessel lies at 270 feet. Secretary Daniels vowed to raise the sub at any cost to determine the cause and prevent future accidents.
