Dayton Flood Relief Progress Under Martial Law

Dayton reports show relief work under U S troops and John K. Patterson rapidly aiding victims. Bodies found rise as access improves. 40 000 to be fed and housed, 15 000 houses to rehabilitate, 2 000 structures to be torn down. The Weather Bureau predicts higher temperatures across the nation with below normal precipitation in the North and near normal in the South. A disturbance moves from the West Tuesday to the East by Friday bringing rains and a cooler turn.

Rivers flood submerges Gallipolis. Ohio towns brace

A flood report from Gallipolis says the Ohio River rose to a 67 foot stage, higher than ever, but is easing. The State Hospital cares for 200 people and the town 300 more with no deaths. Rail service may resume and Gallipolis could act as a supply port for Pomeroy Ironton and Portsmouth. Ironton and Portsmouth also face fires and damage.

Ohio flood wave nears Cincinnati as Mississippi below flood stage

The crest near Huntington West Virginia floods outlook, with Cincinnati expected to rise late tonight or Tuesday morning. River levels show gradual climbs at Cincinnati Louisville Evansville Cairo and other points while Mississippi remains below flood stage from St. Louis to the passes. No material change in forecasted stages was announced.

Ohio River flood forecast at Cincinnati and Maysville

Midnight briefing notes limited reports from the Ohio River above Maysville. Wires of the Columbia Gas and Electric Co. were most reliable with river rising toward 69 to 70 feet and likely to fall slowly after Tuesday as rains move eastward. Moderately warm weather expected with scattered rains in the Ohio Valley.
