Manila reports Malolos captured after a sharp fight. Aguinaldo escapes and retreats inland as General MacArthur’s divisions ford the river and push insurgent trenches. Rebels resist briefly before the American advance.
War Department release from General Otis reports MacArthur captured Malolos at 10 15 this morning after slight resistance and the insurgents fired the city. Hall’s engagement near Mariquina caused twenty casualties before the enemy retreated. President informed at the Executive Mansion.
A war department dispatch from Manila dated March 31 states General MacArthur opened the attack on Malolos at 7 o clock this morning. Casualties reported yesterday include 4 killed and 23 wounded, all brought to Manila. Hall moved with three battalions northeast and Mariquina was taken as pursuit of the enemy continued with orders to return this afternoon.
