Oshkosh March 27 F R Wipperman secretary of a new state Republican group says the University of Wisconsin is the spawning bed for socialistic laws and that Madison links the university to the state capitol. He urges an investigation of alleged socialist activity noting an Ohio move to purge universities of un American influence.
Senator Couzens of Michigan filed with the Treasury Department a plea for abatement of 10 909 558 in taxes. He says the levy is an attempt to punish him for asking Secretary Mellon and the Internal Revenue Bureau.
Louis Cahn displayed Scotch plaid neckties in his shop window along with three cases labeled White Horse Sandy MacDonald and Black and White and a sign Real Scotch. Three men wearing prohibition badges entered the store demanding removal of the whisky boxes claiming it violated the law and threatening prosecution.
Mrs. Olive Stoll, 44, former music teacher from Lytle Apartments, drank poison after a divorce from Dr Karl Ludwig Stoll. Police say she had two prior suicide attempts and is in grave condition at General Hospital as doctors seek to identify the unknown poison.
Gerald Chapman faces a courtroom fate as waitress Lillian Knell identifies him and Walter E. Shean as the man with Chapman at the New Britain inn. The accuser placed the two at the scene the night before police officer James Skelly was shot, while Kupeck and Knell corroborated the sightings. The defense challenged identification, and the trial adjourned with jurors guarded at Heublin hotel.
The miners minimum wage bill failed in the House of Commons 208 to 143 with nearly all Tory MPs opposing. The measure would have set adult coal miners at 10 to 12 shillings per day about 15 dollars a week, as miners warned of a general strike.
In Grand Forks North Dakota on March 27 J P Cole a laborer shot and killed his 4 year old son after a quarrel with his wife. He then killed himself while in the automobile of the Chief of Police en route to jail.

Bombay March 27 The trial of nine men accused in the attempted kidnapping of Mumtaz Begum the Nautch girl and former mistress of the Maharajah of Indore features allegations of Oriental intrigue. Alla Bux Wazir Mumtazs uncle recounts his travels from Indore to Bombay to aid in a return to the Maharajah, saying Anand Rao Phanse funded the plot and a watchman was bribed. The Indore Premier ordered state guards off the Maharajahs property without permission. The Maharajah of Indore a leading Indian prince famed for wealth and jewels is described.

In New York on March 27 Dudley Casterline a bank clerk told Supreme Court Justice Callaghan in Brooklyn that he fined his wife one dollar each time she spoke out of turn. He claimed the fines were withheld from her allowance and she countersued for separation winning twenty dollars weekly alimony pending trial.
Senator Burton Wheeler and two associates Gordon Campbell and Edwin Booth were indicted in Washington for conspiring to defraud the government through land fraud schemes using dummies to obtain oil land permits. The case ties to letters and telegrams between Wheeler and Campbell and involves a plan to exceed legal land limits. Wheeler proclaimed his innocence and scheduled Montana trial for April 16, with bonds set and witnesses to follow.
Premier Mussolini spoke to the Chamber of Deputies for under ten minutes in his first appearance since illness. He brushed off rumors of malingering while defending the Geneva Protocol and his international focus, facing heckling from Communist Deputy Gennari as authorities kept order.

Paris March 27 The identity of an American woman planning a breach of promise and defamation suit against British Lieutenant Colonel Ian Dennistown is being kept secret. Dudley Field Malone, counsel for the American woman, says the case rests on letters Dennistoun wrote before marrying the Dowager Countess Carnarvon containing uncomplimentary remarks about the Countess.
Sixteen of seventeen crewmen from the former sub chaser S. C. 217 were rescued by Coast Guardsmen after their craft sank while being towed to Sandy Hook, riddled by bullets. One crewman is missing, likely jumped overboard during the chase of rum runners along the shore. Cutter 2210 engaged the ship, and Bootewain's Mate Tilton was wounded in the leg.
