Famed Cincinnati Sculptor Sir Moses Ezekiel Dies in Rome
Sir Moses Ezekiel, renowned American sculptor, died in Rome Italy of pneumonia on Tuesday. Born in Richmond Virginia in 1844 he studied at the Virginia Military Institute and the College of Virginia before rising to fame in Cincinnati. His best known local work a marble bust of James E Murdoch resides in the Cincinnati Public Library. He received the Michael Beer prize and was knighted by the King of Italy. He lived abroad since 1873 primarily in Rome where his studio was in the Baths of Diocletian ruins.
