Chinese Stokers Blamed For Loss Of British Ship
London March 26 The steamer Delmira was sunk by a German submarine off Boulogne in the English Channel. The crew fled in ten minutes, landing on the Isle of Wight, after the submarine fired three revolver shots to force the ship to stop. The captain ordered full speed ahead and blamed the stokers, all Chinese, for refusing to feed the furnaces. The submarine towed the boats for over an hour before releasing them. Delmira remained afloat after grounding near St Vaast. Delmira, 2011 tons net, built 1905, commanded by Captain Lover lace, had arrived Havre from St Johns March 14.
