President Harding approved the visit, with Debs returning to prison afterward. Debs discussed his case and was advised not to discuss the matter publicly.

Eugene V. Debs, the Socialist nominee, left the Atlanta Federal Prison for a Washington trip with Department of Justice agents guarding him. The departure marked the first time he had left the penitentiary since 1918 and he was expected to return by Friday to resume hospital duties. Debs has been described as a model prisoner with one prior disciplinary incident for criticizing President Wilson.

Chicago police launched a massive manhunt extending across the Central West for Tommy O Connor who shot Detective Sergeant Patrick O Neill and fled. More than 2 500 officers searched the city while bills offered 2500 dollars dead or alive. O Connor was later found to have forced his way into the Condon car with Mrs. Condon and drove off before releasing her. the car was recovered near the city limits.
In Halle Germany on March 24 security police occupied the printing plant of The Class War newspaper. Officers seized pamphlets urging a general strike found at the site.
The Allied Reparations Commission informed the German Government that 20,000,000,000 gold marks are due under Article 235 of the peace treaty and must be paid by May 1 or penalties will be imposed.
Judge Alfred J. Talley sentenced four men for a wave of robberies in Upper Manhattan. Louis Hennig Morris Bernstein Edward Maysey and Joseph Cohen received five to ten years six years and seven years respectively for the November spree that drew nationwide attention.
Judge John F. Sater of the United States District Court for Southern Ohio said he intends to retire within a few months. He has served fifteen years since appointment during the Roosevelt era and plans no fixed date. A vacancy will follow his retirement with Judge John W. Peck as the remaining district judge.

Messages from two carrier pigeons showed the craft drifted off St Andrews Bay then sank from 100 feet. A tornado from 4 to 5 pm touched Berlin ten miles west of Lewisburg causing two deaths, one fatal injury, and ten serious injuries in Marshall County. Lane Clarence Reynolds and Louis Hopper are named victims. freight cars toppled, railroad service blocked until midnight.
A late afternoon tornado struck western Scott County Kentucky wrecking five barns and houses and damaging farms fences and telephone lines. All wires are down and livestock are reported killed according to reports received tonight.
Three area farms bore the brunt of a late afternoon tornado. Five large barns and two houses were destroyed or damaged while several cattle were killed. No injuries reported. Most damage centered near Stamping Ground on the Franklin Scott county line.
During yesterday's thunderstorm a house at 3446 Colerain Avenue occupied by John Crawford and Martin Flannery was struck by lightning and caught fire near the chimney. The fire quickly damaged a large section of the roof, the alarm was raised and the Fire Department contained the blaze. damage amounted to $100.
In Macon Georgia on March 24 a dull courtroom tale opened a fraud trial of fifty three men accused of conspiring to steal express shipments from the American Railway Express Company during federal control. The defendant G C Carter recounted buying a bell from a Chicago mail order house that yielded a lawn mower instead. The government tied the mower to loot recovered from E E Dunaway's home at Oglethorpe, an indicted agent.
Thomas Leahy a 19 year old Silk Finishing Company chauffeur reported that he and three helpers were bound gagged and held up as they loaded a truck in Bethune street New York. Three bandits took $50000 worth of silks and drove them to a lot about three miles up town where they abandoned the victims.
Missive said to be couched in affectionate terms, written in 1919, could be used as evidence in the James A. Stillman divorce case. Mrs. Anne A. Stillman denies adultery claims and asserts she has never been unfaithful. she contests the suit and seeks relief.
Henry Fleege aged 99 died at his home near Galena Illinois today. He had lived there seventy nine years and never was ill or needed a doctor. His health motto was early to bed and early to rise. He is survived by twenty two grandchildren and fifty two great grandchildren.
Traffic on the Missouri & North Arkansas Railway resumed after a tie-up of more than a week caused by railroad property destruction. Guards rode the trains while special officers and citizen volunteers patrolled the tracks.
Samuel Rembrandt, an attorney in Cleveland, was found guilty by a federal jury of attempting to bribe Prohibition Agent Fred Counts. The jury deliberated seven minutes. Sentence deferred until Saturday pending a motion for a new trial.
