James Christopulos, 30, died after a dispute with Alexander Manapes, 29, in Toledo Ohio. Police say Manapes started a roaring fire in their stove early today and Christopulos objected to the heat before a fight left Christopulos wounded and near death.
The Galloper Lightship near the Thames was torpedoed and sunk. The Dutch liner Tubantia was sunk by a German torpedo boat destroyer amid calls in Berlin for a shift in submarine policy. Verdun battles continue as German artillery intensifies. Russian offensives in Galicia and Turkish Armenia unfold, with Czernowitz evacuated and Austrians retreating along the Dniester. Russian Black Sea actions report sinking several small ships.
Mrs. Alice Bailey aged 92 died at her daughter's Washington Indiana home. She reportedly pieced about 2500 quilts over fifty years averaging one per week. Quilts were distributed to friends across the United States. Bailey was born in Manchester England.

Three men were killed and three injured in a freight train collision on the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad near New Richland Minnesota during a snowstorm. Victims include engineer A C Stover of Minneapolis stock man Fred Hart of Albert Lea and Ole Wanegen of Albert Lea. The caboose and three stock cars burned and victims were trapped in the wreckage.
Detectives arrested seven members of an alleged safeblowing gang in two East Eighty third Street houses. A woman described as the gang leader remains sought. A notebook with a jewelry store target code was found on one suspect. The leader is said to be the sweetheart of one arrestee.
In Youngstown Ohio on March 22 lawyers for six steel companies urged Judge W S Anderson to quash indictments charging conspiracy to fix prices for labor and steel. They argued the indictments are indefinite and merge multiple crimes. labor was argued not a commodity, a position backed by Samuel Gompers and other labor leaders.
John W. Kern of Indiana was selected today to fill the Finance Committee seat left vacant by the death of Benjamin F. Shively. The appointment follows Shively’s recent passing and maintains committee membership.
