Robert Fussimms yesterday won the world championship by defeating James J Corbett in Carson, following Corbett’s prior title win from John L Sullivan in 1862. The 14 round bout featured Corbett’s sharp boxing and Fussimmmons’ calculated power, ending when Fussimmmons landed a left uppercut to the spleen and a heart blow, sending Corbett to the ropes.
