In Mexico City on March 16 R D Hutchison vice president of British Petroleum El Aguila denied President Obregon's charges that the company aided the de la Huerta rebellion. He said he sought to interview the President to clear up the matter and expressed confidence the President would be satisfied the company could not be guilty.
Police were called to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Chicago when two pastors attempted simultaneous sermons. The board demanded Rev. C. H. Demetry resign, and an injunction barred Rev. Demetrius Vainikos from speaking before he was later allowed to preach after order was restored.
Maurice L. Galvin a leading Kentucky Republican leader and attorney rests after an appendectomy at St Elizabeth's Hospital Covington. He returned from Frankfort ill and underwent surgery performed by Dr J A Ryan and Dr Clifford N Heisel. Galvin a Kentuckys Republican Committee member at large and convention delegate has served as general counsel for Chesapeake and Ohio and for the Southern Railroad in Kentucky and as attorney for the Green Line Street Railway Company. He is married with two children.
Bart Stuntebeck shot his divorced wife Mrs Josephine Stuntebeck at her Latonia home in the presence of daughter Martha 17 who swore out a warrant for shooting with intent to kill. He was wounded and taken to Speers Memorial Hospital Dayton Ky with a bullet near the heart. Police guard and confession followed.
New York dispatch reports a phantom fifty four foot gray pirate cruiser patrolling waters near Rum Row for three weeks. Armed with two machine guns and twenty two crew, the vessel targets rum runners, seizing cash from the impressed traders while avoiding liquor cargo. Victims claim losses of two to three thousand dollars each.
August Conrad, 55, of 1732 Pulte Street, charged with driving while intoxicated after the car he drove crashed into a pole at Harrison Avenue and Werk Road. He was treated at General Hospital for chin cuts before being jailed. John Sceance, 30, of 2030 Dunlap Street, injured when knocked down by a car said to be driven by George H. Barr, at Opera Place and Vine Street. Sceance sent home after treatment. Lester McCarthy, 19, of 424 Hickory Street, injured alighting from a streetcar struck at Burnet and Northern avenues. Daniel Finkelman, 22, of 1213 Central Avenue Middletown, charged with reckless driving after driving the car involved.
South Carolina plans to seek a requisition to obtain William Gates from Kentucky. Gates is wanted for the slaying of Richard Heaton in Lake City, D C, and is charged with assault and battery false imprisonment and conspiracy tied to attacks on Lake City Police Chief W R Wall last November and December. Governor McLeod announced the plan after Gates was exonERated in a Louisville court.
The Grand Opera House opening of Kelly's Vacation was postponed after a broken baggage car axle caused a delay on the route from Washington, D C to Cincinnati. The company arrived after noon without scenery and postponed the first performance. The production by A H Wood had been on the road two weeks and aims for a Broadway opening.
More than 1000 mourners attended the Wilson memorial in Jersey City where Joseph P. Tumulty, Wilson's secretary, urged reform. He said the President’s office should be immune from political scandals and harassment, asserting Woodrow Wilson was crucified by his critics.
Michael Marcinnik aged 38 was found dead at the wheel of his car in a garage in Cleveland police said the death was due to asphyxiation.
The French Senate approved the treaty with Serbia after the Chamber of Deputies had already ratified the compact. The move follows earlier approval in the chamber, finalizing the agreement.
Joseph French of Chelmsford Mass earned 100 dollars in a contest by Mrs Rose Scott of Saugatuck Conn for proposing "Banbug" as the best general word to label those advocating restriction of rights. The prize notes Banbug as the opposite of scofflaw, a term used by prohibition advocates in Boston. Thirty thousand words were entered.
Amos W. Woodcock U S District Attorney recounts a promoter seeking in advance the fine for first showing Dempsey Carpentier fight pictures in Baltimore theaters. He says the promoter proposed staged showings with a single fine and continued displays, which he rejected. The promoter, he notes, was not connected to the Justice Department.

The disclosures center on alleged deals in the Carpentier Dempsey prize fight films shown nationwide for profit and in violation of law, with critics accusing authorities of malevolent manipulation.
Clover Field Santa Monica Cal March 16 Four United States Army aviators will start a flight around the world tomorrow after a day of aviation displays. Major Frederick L Martin led the show with pilots Lowell H Smith Leigh Wade and Erik Nelson. Navy officers praised the event as one of the era s greatest exhibitions of aviation.
Theodore Roosevelt defends his integrity against Stevenson’s charges over Teapot Dome and Sinclair. He says he quit all business before entering politics, severed ties during the war, and did not profit from oil leases. He notes his brother Archie’s job with Sinclair was arranged to help an ex-service man.
Casper real estate broker Fred Van Gordon 42 was shot by Sheriff Albert Peyton in Douglas after Peyton went to arrest him for allegedly slaying his wife Pearl and 12 year old son Arthur. Police say Van Gordon killed them, dumped bodies in Damp Bridge Creek, then fired on the sheriff who returned fire. Authorities believe the pair were killed the previous night amid Van Gordon’s financial troubles and forged embezzlement charges.
The first Dawes Committee proposes taxing the German people at par with allied nations, starting reparations immediately and increasing as industry recovers. It calls for German control of economics, creation of an international bank to issue currency on a gold basis with mixed German, Allied, and neutral leadership, and a ten billion mark railroad mortgage shared among Allies.
Secretary Hoover reports nine essential commodities mainly sourced abroad are controlled by foreign producers or alliances. He urges federal action including extending the Webb-Pomerene act to let American buyers form common purchasing agencies to counter foreign control and reduce costs for farmers and consumers.
The House Ways and Means Committee issued a report stating the proposed soldier bonus bill would cost up to 2.119 billion dollars over twenty years, to be funded by anticipated government savings.
