Armour & Co. declares an election in all plants for tomorrow to select employee representatives to create an industrial democracy with equal employer and worker input. A temporary board will guide plans, leading to plant and general conference boards and an arbitrator path for unsettled matters.

CHICAGO March 14 J Ogden Armour in a statement accompanying announcement of the industrial democracy plan said the meat packing industry had reached a situation where there must be greater co operation between employers and employees The directors of the company have decided to establish a medium whereby matters of mutual interest to the employees and the company may be discussed and adjusted The plan aims to teach employees their responsibility to the public and the limits of addressing owners and workers needs The success of the business is measured by returns to owners and employees and by service to the public Disagreement means business failure no dividends for owners no wages for workers no service for the public A plan was devised to let employees share with management in knowledge of mutual interests enabling prompt and orderly consideration of wages hours working conditions sanitary and safety measures.
Louisville March 14 A flip of the right hand saved Frank Bachman a grocer and produce dealer at Fifth and Liberty streets from a tarantula bite. The spider hid in a banana stalk and struck as he reached to pull bananas for a customer. He shook his hand and the tarantula fell away.
Abraham L Erlanger, famed theatrical producer, reportedly purchased the Palace Hotel for 1 500 000. The eight story Vine street property may be converted into a theater with leases delaying work until 1924. Negotiations were handled by Charles J Livingood for the Emery estate and an Erlanger attorney.
In Florida near Eagle Lake Polk County a Black man named William Bowles was fatally harmed by a mob after two deputies arrested him for allegedly making improper remarks to a white woman. The mob overpowered the officers and took Bowles from custody as he died beside a roadside tree.
Newport city commissioners will investigate the lack of arrests in the shooting and attempted truck hold up near the Fourth Street Bridge last Saturday. A $200 reward is offered for any of the three warrants targets. two suspects were seen in Newport. two officers were on the scene but the trio escaped.
Investigation into the disappearance of gardener John Lewis Goucher, last seen near Lowellville eleven years ago, uncovered quicklime three feet beneath a flower bed. No bones were found. dark stains and lime samples sent to the city chemist for analysis with no further action planned pending results.
Ardmore Okla March 14 Mrs Jake L Hamon testified as the states final witness in the Clara Smith Hamon murder case. She described visits with Hamon and Clara and said Clara threw hats and gloves, then left, while Hamon took a pistol from Clara's room.
Cornelio D Vargas once mascot of the Fourth Ohio Infantry heads a postmaster nomination sent to the Senate by President Harding. A former ward of the Home for Orphans of Soldiers and Sailors in Xenia he now works in Columbus Post Office and would be the first postmaster named by Harding.
Governor Edwin P. Morrow offered a reward of 500 dollars for the arrest and conviction of each mob member who lynched Richard James at Woodford County Jail. He removed jailer John H. Edger from office and called law officers to arrest the lynchers. A court of inquiry was to be started as the grand jury will not meet until May.
Versailles Ky March 14 a special grand jury was to meet to investigate the lynching of Richard James a Black man hanged near the town after a mob took the jailer’s keys and seized him. James had been on trial for the Midway robbery murder case and the jury had deadlocked on punishment with one juror seeking life and eleven seeking death. A new trial was set for March 28.
Grand jury in Louisville dismisses an indictment charging Miss Gertrude Glasser with murder of her father Julius Glasser a 53 year old barber. The girl’s mother and county patrolmen testified she shot him at home in Fern Creek after he beat and threatened his wife Nannie weeks earlier.
Springfield O March 14 police aided by more than 100 World War veterans sworn in as special Deputy Sheriffs and city firemen guarded the city against racial disorders. Governor Davis to investigate past week’s disturbances while troops recalled tomorrow morning.
Governor Harry L. Davis travels to Springfield Ohio to review accusations that local officials mishandled last week’s race disturbances without state troops and to decide on charging decisions amid calls for military aid.
Frank Sheridan of Madison and Robbins streets Covington says a black man jumped from a pole on Greenup street and ordered him to surrender. Sheridan drew a real revolver after recognizing the weapon as a toy. The assailant was wounded in the torso and is hospitalized as John Henry Edwards with no home. His condition is not serious.
Washington March 14 The House Republican replies to Rep Fess questionnaire show wide dispute over Wilson order placing postmasters under civil service. Hays to discuss with President Harding as he weighs options. Some leaders favor retaining civil service in any plan. Many applications flood Congress and the Post Office.
Washington dispatch details Republican protests against Colonel George Harvey's nomination as ambassador to Great Britain. It notes party factionalism, Harvey's Wilson-era writings, and possible implications for Harding's foreign policy and Harvey's Weekly.
Anti dumping legislation to shield American industries from European competition will be rushed in the special session. A conference of Republican Finance and Ways and Means leaders with Secretary Mellon favored tariff revision early, with a final program to be announced after a follow up meeting. The soldier bonus bill is to be included in the fiscal plan.

He lists numerous industry and professional groups as members and says foreign diplomats influence U S policy through educational bureaus operating near legislative committees.
