United States Grand Jury indicted James MacNaughton former bank president for fraudulently certifying a $510,000 check and James and Allan MacNaughton for conspiracy in procuring the fraudulent certification.allan MacNaughton lacked funds to cover the amount. The defendants were arrested and held on bonds.
Daylight burglars robbed John Gleason pawn broker at noon. Thieves rifled the safe taking gold watches diamonds jewelry and rare coins totaling about 3000 dollars. Police suspect they shadowed Gleason and boarded a freight train toward Pittsburgh.

Akron Ohio March 7 David Powell died this morning after being shot Sunday night by his brother Arthur in a house quarrel over smoking. Arthur, 17, showed no emotion and said I shot him and that's all there is of it. He was arraigned before Justice P H Hoffman and bound over to the Common Pleas Court. No special grand jury likely.
Joseph Hampel a switchboard worker at the Lexington Avenue Cable Power House received an electric shock of about 2000 volts and survived. His clothing burned off and he fell unconscious through a hole in the floor. Doctors say no case on record of a man withstanding such a shock. The incident halted all cars on the line until circuits were adjusted.
Special Dispatch reports Mrs. Eliza Walsh of Cavetown area, an aged widow, robbed of 2500 dollars by five masked men who broke in and tortured her. They searched the house while a boy staying with her was bound and gagged. The crime is thought to involve locals who knew of her money.
Frank O Neal of Cuyahoga County indicted with Atkinson for the killing of Guard Lauderbaugh at Columbus Penitentiary testifies he told Warden Coffin a false confession about revolvers to escape punishment. He alleges mental torture and coercion in the annex before trial. Warden Coffin denies the claimed coercion and says only the revolver confession occurred.
New York reports the Cunard Pavonia passengers, totaling 54 aboard, were rescued after a terrifying Atlantic voyage. The Vega from St Michaels Azores brought 3 saloon 17 second cabin and 28 steerage passengers plus four men from the Bulgaria. The Pavonia crew earned praise for bravery, while Captain Atti drew censure after a brutal storm that left boilers adrift and lifeboats used in a gale.
President McKinley, with Mrs McKinley and relatives, plans a brief rest trip to Thomasville Georgia hosted by Senator Hanna. No speeches are planned and officials aim to minimize public attentions. In Ashland Kentucky March 7 a boiler explosion at the White Cloud Laundry killed Frank Owens a Black worker who fetched water near the hydrant. The blast tore through a nearby grocery store roof and cornice and toppled the boiler over houses landing in a backyard with no further injuries reported.
A. W. Ensinger of Fremont presents to the Ohio Centennial Commission an endless chain elevator akin to a Ferris wheel. Eighteen cars carry 900 passengers on a 325 foot steel tower with two top platforms for 900 sightseers. A steam engine will drive the contraption, estimated cost about 200000 dollars.
In Gallipolis Ohio on March 7 the thermometer fell to zero, dropping 50 degrees in twelve hours. A fine snow filled the air since midnight. Sudden cold snaps killed many sheep across the countryside. Prolonged rains saturated wool, snow and cold weather decimated local flocks.
Rome reports the Italian government will press for an apology from China after Tsung Li Yamen refused a concession at San Mun Bay. A squadron of five cruisers with 100 guns and 1 900 men will soon arrive at San Mun Bay in Che Kiang Province to serve as a naval base and coaling station.
In Brazil Indiana Jennie Sutherland aged 13 daughter of David Sutherland died after her clothing caught fire from an open grate. She was alone at home when the accident occurred and died within minutes before help arrived.
London March 7 French Ambassador M Paul Cambon led a London Chamber of Commerce banquet addressing cordial Franco British ties He said peace and war now rest with the people not governments praising commerce promoters and a spirit of conciliation to settle differences reflecting improved relations between London and Paris.
George de Josia sought in Tyrone Pennsylvania on a charge of stealing 2500 dollars worth of dry goods resisted arrest here today. Police subdued him after a desperate fight using a revolver stiletto and razor.
Detroit report says Congressman Snover en route to Port Austin from Washington and Toledo lost or was robbed of his pocketbook. It contained $ and two $300 United States bonds plus railway passes and a mileage ticket.

Dispatch from Warren Ohio reports James Sculley a fourteen year old boy was likely fatally struck by a piece of iron thrown by Ben Smith a colored man. Smith is jailed awaiting further action.
In Chicago on March 7 Baron von Beidenfeld testified he killed Detective Chase McDonald to protect himself after repeated threats. He described McDonald entering the saloon, uttering threats, and forcing him to draw his revolver first. The defense sought to show the shooting as self defense and the jurors were adjourned before completing direct testimony.
The reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in Kirtland Ohio closes a three day conference. Delegates from several states adopt resolutions protesting polygamy and urging that anyone guilty be barred from serving in the United States Senate or House of Representatives.
Andrew Curtis, agent for the Columbus Akron and Cleveland Railway at Galena in Delaware County, was found unconscious at his desk and died after a period in care. A post mortem gave no verdict. Curtis, aged and respected, was infatuated with a prominent young lady who did not return his affections. The body was shipped to Coshocton for burial.
In Columbia City Indiana a triple funeral was held for Mr. and Mrs. B Beeson and Mrs. Isaac Schrader. The two sisters died within twenty four hours of each other and a pattern of successive double deaths followed their line. Mr Beeson died of heart paralysis after hearing of Mrs Schrader's death, and Mrs Beeson fainted and died an hour later. Both families leave large estates with no direct heirs.
