Fire of unknown origin broke out just before midnight in the southeast basement of the Kensington Dene hotel at 8 Main and Market. Firemen, aided by brave civilians, rescued Mrs. C Woods and Mrs. L Bauman from ladders on the second and third floors. Claudia Hollingsworth and her sister Constance were saved by N J Carley who reentered the flames with firefighters, carrying the semi conscious girl and later her sister. Mrs. Lena E Rodefeld, ill with pneumonia, was aided by her daughter Lacinda in retreat through the flames, and Fireman Elgas assisted Mrs. Margaret Perry as Patrolman Westerkamm was injured by water spray. Mrs. J Franklin Alder on the adjacent house shouted for help as responders raised a ladder to save her.

Mob shoots suspected killer on Kentucky road
Wood Ayers, charged with killing his mother-in-law last fall, was slain by a mob near Mount Union Spring in Allen County.
