A rear end collision between two passenger trains near Clifton Station in Rochester Pennsylvania killed seven Ohioans and injured fifty others. The second train reportedly ran a green signal and struck the first train at high speed, with the rear Pullman car and a tourist car overwhelmed as passengers were hurled forward.
Washington dispatch reports Representative Burton led a large Democratic rally to defeat a Sibley led challenge over harbor appropriations. Burton argued for a compromise on Philadelphia survey funding while Sibley assailed his methods. Separate notes describe a deadly train wreck near Pittsburg involving the Tippecanoe Club and an Ohio National Guard engineers battalion with multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
