The British steamer King David ran aground off Cape Henry Virginia and sent an SOS at 11 45 PM. Coast Guards and a wrecking company were notified as the ship was reported ashore near Cape Henry Lighthouse and breaking up amid heavy seas. Crews were imperiled while lightships were adrift in the storm.
A wireless from the steamship City of St. Louis reports steering gear failure in a South Atlantic storm. The vessel sails Savannah to New York, with heavy seas and a gale under way near Fenwick Island. Other distressed ships include Sulamierco San Pedro and Maracaibo. Filmore Daiquiri reports ashore seeking assistance.
The Cape Charles lightship broke from its moorings during a gale and drifted toward Chicoteague at high speeds. The Virginia Capes coast guard patrol boat No. 103 also faced trouble, failing to enter the capes and being blown back to sea while en route from New York to Norfolk for repairs.
