Six Eastern Kentucky men including John Hall William Hall Isadore Hatfield John Mitchell and John Hoffman face murder charges in Huntington West Virginia for the death of 23 year old Luther Fidler. Hoffman remains at large while the other five are bailed at five thousand dollars each. The case centers on alleged conspiracy to kill Fidler who was found dead in railroad yards after a prior belief of accidental death.
One of the largest Hyde Park crowds welcomed labor leaders who were recently deported from South Africa due to their role in the general strike. The march, organized by the Trades Union Congress, saw delegations from nearly every union. Leaders pledged to return to South Africa but indicated English union heads would travel there to sustain the organizations.
In Chable Switzerland three climbers Richard Meylan Henri Dentand and Marmilled Drouget were killed during an ascent of Rosablanche. They were roped together and reached 5000 feet before an avalanche swept them over a cliff. Meylan and Dentand bodies were recovered.
Gifford Pinchot, former Chief Forester, tonight announced his candidacy for the Washington party nomination for United States Senator to succeed Boyes Penrosi. He was the unanimous choice of Progressive leaders, per a Harrisburg conference resolution.
In Ithaca New York March 1 a National Association of junior republic judges panel found William R George not guilty of improper conduct toward several girls from Freeville. The panel disapproved his parental stance as head of the institution. Judges were Joseph Choate Justin San Zabary and Maetian Wald.
