Minister J A Lee demands 3000 dollars to reveal secrets of Scott Jackson and Alonzo Walling at Covington Jail. The plea outlines offers to accept a bribe to obtain information linked to the case.
The Commercial Tribune exposes bribery, a minister selling access to imprisoned murderers, and a push to obtain confessions for profit. Judge Helm ordered Jackson and Walling moved to Alexandria at the earliest possible moment.

Columbus March 1 Attorney General Monnett received the petition the express companies will file in the U S Supreme Court asking for a rehearing of the Nichols law case. The high court had upheld the tax by 5 to 4 then reversed on rehearing. The petition argues insufficiency of prior argument, broad constitutional questions, practical effects on express business, novelty of issues, and hope for adjustment on further review.
A grand Cochran banquet in Washington honors John Sherman on his final Senate term and retirement to join President McKinley’s Cabinet. Notables include Hanna Bushnell Foraker absent. Sherman thanks Ohio leaders, recalls colleagues Brice Thurman Pendleton and McKinley.

The Drexel party from Philadelphia aboard the Sul tana arrived in New Orleans at 4:30 p.m. All aboard are safe though they faced rough weather near the Florida Keys and were delayed. Their lateness caused slight anxiety not knowing their fate.
