A brutal battle near Zletovo leaves 1,000 Bulgarian casualties while Serbs report 300 wounded and steadfastly defend against Bulgarian aggression.
Lisbon June 25 A violent scene unfolded in the Portuguese Senate as Senator Arthur Costa brother of the Premier confronted Joao Jose De Freitas over a remark De Freitas drew a revolver and leveled it at Costa. Senators rushed De Freitas and disarmed him.
Walter I Crawford, a Postal Telegraph lineman, fainted after receiving 4500 dollars in compensation for injuries from a pole fall. Six guards had to restrain him as he was carried to a cell, then released after medical attention.
New York June 25 James B Haggin wealthy horseman and mine owner faced a Supreme Court suit over a portrait by Princess Wilma Lwoff Parlaghy The princess claims Haggin agreed to pay 25000 for the painting and frame and valued the work at 25000 The complaint notes Haggin 92 years old appeared hale in his Hast 64th street library and that the portrait stands at the head of his marble staircase The princess has painted portraits of Carnegie Belmont Choate Whitelaw Reid and other monarchs
The tariff revision bill secures free sugar in 1916 and free raw wool after a Senate caucus vote of 40 to 6 and 41 to 6 respectively. President Wilson urged no compromise as amendments faced stiff opposition, with key senators voting for and against various proposals before final approval.
In Ottawa Ontario six westbound Winnipeg Express cars derailed after rails spread and plunged into the Ottawa River. Eight people died including four men three women and a child while over twenty were injured. several in critical condition. The accident occurred three miles east of Ottawa as colonist cars carrying Glasgow immigrants awaited westward travel. Conductor Daniel Cameron was among the few who escaped unharmed.
Harrisburg reports Pennsylvania becomes the only state to adopt a eugenic marriage license act. The measure, passed 30 to 5, bars licenses to those with transmissible diseases or mental infirmities, and restricts inmates from marrying for five years unless fit to support a family. Licenses also barred for intoxication or narcotics influence.
In Baltimore this evening Miss Mary Buchanan Albert married Lennox Birckhead in what is believed to be the state's first eugenic wedding. The couple presented health certificates from physicians to Rev. Dr. Hugh Birckhead who officiated. The ceremony followed a diocesan convention canon urging health certificates for marriage.
New York reports that 12,000 people watched the Imperator sail on its maiden eastbound voyage. Among the onlookers were Mrs. Ogden Mills and Justice J. W. Gerard. Two wealthy women plan to reform an ex brigand into a grand opera singer, after a long tale of a Naples robbery and a brigand chief who sang.
Pittsburg June 25 Special Oswald Anderson and John Chesmier milk deliverymen discovered a fire in the Baird cigar factory office on Thirteenth Avenue. They used milk from three 40 quart cans to dampen flames until a hydrant could be found and extinguish the fire. The owner presented the milkmen with a generous reward claiming savings of about $100,000.
Miss Louise Schell, lauded as the prettiest girl of Northwestern University’s 1909 class, married Charleton Frazer, head of the M C A in Manila, at Mt. Pleasant Iowa. The ceremony was performed by her father, Edwin A Schell, president of Iowa Wesleyan University.
President Wilson hosted a high level discussion on the currency question with the Senate Banking and Currency Committee and House counterpart, as bankers pressed for representation on the Federal Reserve Board and a plan to retire the bond secured currency. The meeting followed earlier hearings and centered on expanding the board to eleven members with four banker representatives and raising or removing limits on Treasury notes.
In Pittsburg on June 25 Maud a mine Jennie cow with a decisive kick halted a mad dog terrorizing West Homestead after it bit a boy and two Italian women. Police fired. the animal charged again before Maud struck and the dog lay inert and lifeless.
Washington reports Judge Lovett, Union Pacific chairman, testified to a Senate committee that efforts to hire Edward Lauterbach, a New York lawyer, aimed to grease the wheels in Washington and avert agitation in Congress over the Union Pacific Southern Pacific dissolution order. He cited telephonic pressure from a man purporting to be Congressman Riordan and conversations with Otto H. Kahn, with Lauterbach indicating a House move to oppose dissolution and possible reopening of the money trust inquiry.
Federal investigator Clayfort Herrington, famed for Diggs Caminetti work, was suspended without pay by the Justice Department after urging President Wilson to dismiss Attorney General McReynolds over trial delays. Herrington’s letter accused officials in Justice and Commerce and Labor of blocking deportations and called for a full Washington inquiry.

McNab announced before United States District Judge Van Fleet that his resignation as United States District Attorney for the Northern District of California has been accepted by President Wilson.
