The Baltimore convention scene grows tense as leaders, delegates, and managers jockey for patronage, with rumors of Hearst Murphy talks and a push toward Champ Clark. Democrats vow victory and unity while watching March 4 payroll ambitions.
William Jennings Bryan fails to block Alton B. Parker as temporary chairman of the Democratic National Convention. The national committee approves Parker 31 to 2 amid Bryan opposition with 20 votes for Olie James and 2 for Senator O’Gorman. Details hint at a floor fight and Bryan preparing a major address to rally progressives.

Thaw's present sanity proceeds in White Plains with Evelyn Thaw testifying she fears he would kill her if released Shearn faces Jerome over bribery claims by unnamed lawyers and Thaw's past statements to Dr Silo are discussed Witnesses include Clifford Hartridge Dr Wagner and Wooster University classmates.
General Powell Clayton of Arkansas was made temporary chairman of the Republican national committee at the Chicago meeting. Alvah H. Martin of Virginia was chosen temporary secretary as six states failed to send representatives. F B Stanley of Kansas shifted from Roosevelt supporter to join the committee with Walter F Brown of Ohio and others awaiting the president’s guidance on campaign plans.
Samuel Gompers Frank Morrison and John Mitchell were found guilty of contempt of court by the District of Columbia supreme court in connection with the Bucks Store and Range boycott. Sentences ranged from six months to one year as the men planned to appeal to the U S Supreme Court.
The Niagara excursion dock at Eagle Park collapsed sending about 100 into the river near Grand Island. At least twenty five people are dead or missing, including Mary Nester and Nora Meyer. dozens were rescued as authorities searched amid confusion and poor lighting. District Attorney Dudley visited the scene but an inquest is pending.
Baltimore writer Frank E. Tunison surveys the 1904 Democratic convention race noting 1094 delegates, two thirds rule vs majority, Ohio law conflicts, and multiple rival claims. He lists Bryan Clark Wilson Harmon Underwood Harrison and others while recalling 1884 nominees and projecting possible splinters. He cites Chicago figures and hints at notable names like Gaynor as potential contenders.
Alfred L. Seligman brother of Isaac N. Seligman head of J. & W. Seligman & Co. was killed when his high power touring car collided with a Russell W. Stuart vehicle at Seventy second Street and West End Avenue New York. Nephew Morris Rainger secretary rode with him. Seligman a Columbia graduate 1882 and noted for art music and instrument collection. Coroner and DA investigated. no arrests.
