Fred F. Gardiner an aviator from Portland Maine was drowned when his plane fell about 150 feet into Lake Kouka near Lake Rochester N Y Divers failed to recover the body. He had been maneuvering in the air for some time before the fatal turn.
Louis Voight of Brooklyn, now at Norwegian Hospital, suffers rabies from a five year old dog bite. A policeman was bitten during Voight’s feral attack after a struggle at the precinct. Voight earlier saved two girls from a dog at Erasmus Hall High School, sustaining wounds that were cauterized. Doctors say recovery is unlikely as he remains restrained.
Special Dispatch reports Mr and Mrs John D Rockefeller Miss Spellman and retinue departing Tarrytown for Cleveland to spend the summer. The party’s golf bags and baggage were sent ahead signaling the departure. Rockefeller played golf this morning with his pastor Rev Arthur T Brooks and a friend.
London June 23 A pilot named Fairbairns was drowned off Shoeburyness while testing a new 350 horsepower enclosed aircraft with a glass conning tower. He had flown from Brooklands and aimed for a transatlantic flight in July. He sank after leaping from 1,000 feet before a nearby friend could reach him.
Washington June 23 Chairman Glass of the House Banking and Currency Committee and Chairman Owen of the Senate Committee met with the President as he spoke about the administration currency bill. Leaders expect rapid introduction in both houses with a critical reaction from Republican Leader Mann accusing the message of borrowing from older reforms and political threats over patronage.
President Wilson faces a cool reception as he urges immediate action on banking and currency legislation. He insists Congress must act now despite party lines, warning that delays threaten the country’s financial reforms and tariff changes.
Washington June 23 Attorney General McReynolds will report to President Wilson on the causes that led him to direct postponements of the Dig e-Camine to white slave cases and the trials of two Western Fuel Company directors.
