In Henderson Kentucky on June 23 two young girls Laura age 7 and Jennie age 6 were found smothered to death inside an old cellar trunk at the Melton home near Bordley Union County. The children had been playing hide and seek with three others and crawled into the trunk during a game. A spring lock airtight tomb ended their play.
A large Confederate veteran assembly closes its business with resolutions defeated. about fifteen thousand old soldiers attend. Over twelve thousand receive official badges and more than eight thousand are regularly delegated attendants from camps and bivouacs. The event marks an unprecedented city turnout.

James McCaw aged 3 in York County shot his 2 year old brother with a pistol in a Rock Hill area room. The two-year-old died after hours of unconsciousness. Jim believed he was simply putting the baby to sleep.

A Memphis branch conductor reports Hite, jailed on suspicion of robbing Louisville and Nashville Train No. 2 near Clarksville. He allegedly revealed the crime to a woman, who alerted police. Hite, from Red River Logan County, is described as a feared relative of Jesse James and the sole bandit of a bold express safe robbery.
In Millersburg Ohio on June 23 the judicial convention closed amid a general row with two nominees for long term and two for short term. Nicholas of Coshocton and Eason of Wayne claimed regular nominations. Police restored order as Coshocton County delegates rushed Nicholas to the chair and left with twenty four Holmes delegates. Wayne County and twelve Holmes delegates remained and backed Eason.
A group of burglars blew open the safe at the Fonder Company office in Falls Junction Cleveland Ohio. Villagers armed with shotguns fired on the burglars and a running exchange of gunfire followed. The raiders escaped on stolen horses after a burglar was badly wounded but fled.
Cincinnati Postoffice inspectors pursue a man charged with stealing money orders from the Belmore Post Office. The suspect's method involves entering towns after hours, cashing orders by exploiting stores, and exchanging money orders for cash. Tracing leads carry them from Defiance to Indiana, back through Ohio, then to South Bend and Valparaiso.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune Lima O June 23 Detective Watts arrested Bert Douglas of Xenia this afternoon on a charge of stoning a Cincinnati Hamilton Dayton passenger train. Douglas had been put off the train.
