Field day schedule for Cincinnati area high and preparatory schools runs from 2 PM at Fest Platz Carthage fairgrounds to 8 PM gymnastic exhibition at Government Square. Events include wand drills, calisthenics, parallel bars, club swinging, vaulting, and prize awards for the public schools athletic league.
About 15 000 youngsters crowded the Carthage fair grounds for the fourth annual public schools field meet. Grownups were barred from the stands, forcing many to watch from fences as delegations from Hanover and Topeka Kansas and other Turners prepared for Thursday contests. The Turner camp filled a tent city like a military encampment with strict routines including 6 30 a m reveille and rising exercises.
At Carthage Fair grounds a public school field meet ended with John Kelley 15 beaten after a dispute with physical director Dr. Carl Ziegler. Kelley was hospitalized then sent home. doctors warned injuries may worsen before clear outcomes. Kelley is the son of a prominent Democrat.
Atlanta June 21. Attorney Reuben Arnold pressed the arbitration committee to consider public hostility to Negro firemen as a factor in safety. He warned that restoring Negro crews or keeping them on engines could provoke violence and endanger passengers and workers, citing city mayors and investigations. The panel adjourned to resume testimony tomorrow at 10 a.m.
In Madison Illinois on June 21 two of Mrs. Frank Clark's sons aged 10 and 8 fell from a moving train near Madison and were killed. The mother was en route to Grand Rapids Michigan with Frank Hugh and a 7 month old baby when the boys wandered to the Pullman platform and vanished between vestibules. The train was backed to Madison and the bodies were recovered.
New York June 21 The complaint against John R. Hegeman president of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company charged with perjury over an alleged false report to the state commissioner of insurance was dismissed today after a saga through grand juries and courts since 1905.
Two baby antelopes sent by ex president Roosevelt to his daughter Mrs Nicholas Longworth arrived in New York aboard the Vaderland from Antwerp and Dover. Captain Burman kept them on the bridge deck and fed them milk during the crossing.
Mrs Bel lamy Storer wife of the former American ambassador to Austria Hungary has formed a society to press steamship and railroad officials for permission to allow pet dogs to travel first class with their mistresses.
In Khabarovsk Asiatic Russia a 9 year old son of a wealthy merchant was abducted while at play. A kidnapper sent a letter demanding 35000 dollars. The merchant alerted police then the kidnapper killed the merchant and died by suicide. The boy’s fate is unknown.
Norristown Pa June 21 Charles Scheers a chauffeur was sentenced to one year in prison and a $50 fine for running down two men on the Old York road late at night. Patrick McLaughtlin died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Louisville June 21 Judge Emmett Field of the first division circuit court collapsed with apoplexy as he prepared to open court and died minutes later. He was 68, educated at Fulton College Missouri, and served in the Confederate army with a boys company.
A garbled police report references a suspect connected to a Black Hand case fearing band vengeance. Ser g t Vic Churches is mentioned among the terse notes.
A crowded elevator in the Murdock building at 116 Opera Place fell seven stories killing George Demlein, 55, foreman of the James Murdock Jr. company. Seven men were inside. one died at hospital, four seriously injured, and two lightly bruised. Elevator operator William Orr, 65, and six workers were rushed to the city hospital. Demlein died en route.
Special Dispatch to the Commercial Tribune reports Italian suspect Orazio Rumiola breaking down after a broadcast claim that he exposed Heppino Galbo’s arrest in Meadville. Authorities say the Black Hand in Ohio and western Pennsylvania vows to kill informers. Investigations note money letters flow to Italy to shield murderers of Lieutenant Petrosino, with Rumiola and Galbo tied to the case. In Cleveland, Phipino Gaida, tied to the same operation, faces a $5,000 bail and awaits trial alongside Antonio and Joseph Nurse.
Washington June 21 A bill introduced by Representative Stanley of Kentucky seeks to place licorice paste used in tobacco manufacture on the free list. The measure would add these articles to duty free status as opposed to the senate committee’s decision to keep them dutiable.
Cable advices from Liverpool report the Mauretania landed passengers in Liverpool this afternoon after shaving thirty five minutes from the eastward record. Passengers immediately went by train to London arriving there this evening marking the first fulfillment of the promised five days from New York to London.

VAN WERT Ohio June 21 Frank M Campbell manager of the Philadelphia branch of Jones Laughlin Steel company of Pittsburg shot and killed himself at his home. He had been reportedly suffering a nervous breakdown and leaves a widow and three children.
Portsmouth Ohio June 21 John Abshire 12 and George Cole 85 a farmer drowned in the Ohio river. Abshire went beyond his depth while swimming and Cole tried to rescue him.
Frank Donely of Oxford testified before Judge Murphy that his stepson Paul Brandenburg killed his wife last January. Donely said he arrived home to see Brandenburg fire the fatal shot and that he tried to kill himself because of his love for his wife. The court rejected the claim. Donely had pleaded guilty a week earlier and faced a life sentence.
In Chicago on July 2, Bob Leung of El Paso Texas was found guilty while Carlos Sevedry and Jose Parra were acquitted in the U.S. district court regarding the El Paso Chinese smuggling case.
Elsie Sigel daughter of Paul Sigel and granddaughter of General Franz Sigel is murdered in New York. Chinaman Chun Sing is held in Amsterdam amid confusion over Leon Ling. Sun Leong, restaurant keeper, is questioned as a witness. Elsie is buried as police pursue motive of jealousy toward Chu Gain.
