Joliet mayor George F Sehring gives old blue serge suit to a needy man to end a quarrel with his wife Mrs Sehring. The returned suit reveals two diamond rings valued at 11 690 and 690 dollars placed in a trouser pocket, triggering a new hunt.

About two hundred citizens filed a petition with Gov. Cooper demanding the removal of Matthew W. Statson mayor of West Jefferson on charges of intoxication since January 1 1930 gross neglect of duty and drunkenness. Governor Cooper set July 7 for a hearing and noted past race turmoil at the town but said the actions are unrelated to the dog races.
Glenn Myers age 22 and Lucille Edwards 21 of Jackson Michigan faced a $2 license fee with only $1.92. Taxi driver Ray Grinnel lent eight cents and Myers offered a dollar sixty to seal the license. The pair then sought the mayor of nearby Sylvania who agreed to marry them for nothing and lent seven gallons of gas to reach the ceremony.
The Senate approved Hanford MacNider of Iowa as Minister to Canada after a clash with Senator Brookhart who called him the leader of drunken revels at American Legion events. Senator Steck defended MacNider saying he has been a teetotaler since entering public life. The vote ended without a recorded tally as the debate continued.
Summer starts tonight at 10 54 as the Weather Bureau proclaims the longest day. With sunrise at 6 15 and sunset at 8 07 the official timing and daylight saving play into the seasonal march. Reports circulated in Washington claim the Farm Board might seek an extra 100 million dollars to sustain operations through summer and fall, but no official source confirms it.
