Max Becker returning home at 9 30 p m stopped a burglary at 608 West Eighth Street as an intruder tried to exit via a rear window. Becker chased the burglar on foot after a startled exchange and saw the man vanish into the night with nothing taken.
YONKERS N Y June 12 The body of Richard B Herbert 22 years old manager of a lumber company in Kansas City Mo was found today in a woods near here He had been missing from relatives for several days An empty chloroform bottle and a cloth saturated with the drug were found nearby He had been suffering a nervous breakdown and is believed to have taken his own life in a moment of depression
Seven year old Giuseppe Varotta, kidnapped May 2, lies drowned in the Hudson off Piegmont after a week in water. Authorities fear poisoning as vital organs are tested. Three men connected to the Varotta family and five indicted suspects are held on $5,000 bail for revolver possession. Police seize letters and telegrams as investigation expands. This is New York’s first recorded kidnapping death.
