Navy court urges court martial for three officers in Venice case
The Navy Department reports the court of inquiry recommends trial by court martial for Lt. John B. Doddridge Captain Robert F. Wynne and Assistant Surgeon Robert E. Ledbetter on unbecoming behavior charges. It says no further action for Cadet James C. Kress and Private Wilfred Langley. Admiral Crowninshield disapproves the finding citing insufficient evidence. No further proceedings will occur. The admiral notes evidence issues in Chicago hinder a court martial and agrees with no Italian government offense. The decision is based on a brief cable report of the inquiry and of Admiral Crowninshield's disapproval.
