World famous aviatrix Laura Bromwell of Cincinnati dies when her aircraft fails during a preparation for a loop at Mineola. Witnesses report the machine slipped out of control and she fell to the ground, killed instantly at Mitchel Field.
Laura Bromwell, renowned loop the loop record holder and prominent aviator from Cincinnati, died at Mitchel Field after a Canadian training plane failed to respond during a second loop. Witnesses and experts cited loss of motor power and seat cushion failure as factors, noting Bromwell could not reach the controls.
Laura Bromwell born in Cincinnati pursued education there. Her father died in 1907 and her mother refused her flying ideas. She owned an automobile and a motorcycle but sought aviation adventures and longed to become a flyer. Her mother died in 1918 and the subsequent division of the estate is noted.

Miss Bramwell established a world record for women in looping with 199 loops in 1 hour 20 minutes at Curtis Field Mineola L I N Y on May 15. She believed 200 loops but official count was one less than 200. Previously she held a record of 87 loops set in August 1920 and on the same day flew 135 mph over a two mile course setting a speed record for women flyers.
Wenzel Nowak reports his $43 loss after a pickpocket pockets him at Fourth and Walnut. A Latonia race track worker trips the thief in the Hotel Gibson lobby, but the suspect escapes to a taxi with two accomplices. Police say 15 pocketpicking cases were logged in 24 hours across Latonia and Cincinnati.
On Patterson street between Fourth and Fifth Newport Alva Moore 17 and Harry Good 45 chased a robber who stole forty cents from Moore and seventy nine cents from Good. The man fled with a revolver and was identified as Charlie Jacobs 28 of Isabella street and arrested on highway robbery charges.
Two cars on Hopple street near Colerain avenue collided injuring two drivers. Theo dore G. Thepe of Spring Grove avenue broke off a fire plug. Fire Company No. 12 checked the flow. Albert Smith of 661 West McMicken avenue escaped with minor bruises. front wheels damaged.
In Mt Vernon Kentucky Anne May and Leonard Cooper ages 3 and 5 campaign for their mother Leila May Cooper as Rockcastle County Clerk. The widow runs ads across the county urging voters to be liberal and help rear the children with a vote.
Louis Marquett 33 of 837 Bank Street Cincinnati and three companions tested a stalled launch near Covington Pier of the Suspension Bridge. The craft drifted into the river current, threw Marquett, and he died after futile resuscitation efforts. Crew included Joseph Merz and Joseph Sternhofer Covington, Louis Reibling, Paul Wilmus.
Mrs. Alice Cox, 40, of Richmond Place, in a stupor at home, told doctors she drank poison due to distress over her husband’s ill health. She was hospitalized in serious condition after the incident yesterday afternoon.
Patrolmen Elmer Young and John Tebbe confronted a man near Fifth and John streets as he fled with a satchel. He dropped the satchel and fired when approached. officers confiscated the satchel's contents a chicken dinner and items for the orphans home.
Residents of Duncansville gather in a body of fans to honor Dana Duncan, Boston Star left fielder, at a hometown event. Dana Duncan is recalled after an early removal from the game, drawing flowers from attendees.
The Reds shut out the Braves 6 to 0 in perfect weather as about 15 000 fans attended in Jackson O. Tallying the win for Cincinnati, Pat Moran’s squad featured Rackity Rixey and Johnny Scott with strong work while Dana Fillingim struggled in his mound debut for Boston. The game opened with solid pitching and quickly moved into the Reds offense, with Moran's men erupting for several runs in the later innings.
Three shootings occurred in Cincinnati's negro district with one fatality. Mamie Scott, 27, was shot at George and Plum streets and died at General Hospital. George Merritt, 2034 Meritan place, was wounded at West Fifth Street and Indiana pool room and remained in serious condition. Homer Miser and Bernard Hams were also shot, with Hams seeking help at his West 2nd Street home. William Crowders was arrested in connection with the case.
In Hodgenville Kentucky on June 5 a small dog belonging to Mrs Wheeler chased a rabbit into a burrow. The dog followed the quarry, scratched to free it, and the burrow collapsed behind him smothering the animal.
Mrs Eva Catharine Kaber widow of Daniel Kaber publisher of Cleveland was held without bail in New York awaiting extradition on charges of complicity in her husband's murder. She was arrested at the home of Mrs Verona Smith after being indicted in Cleveland. she denied involvement calling the arrest an outrage and blaming relatives opposition to the marriage on religious grounds.
Chief of Police Christensen of Lakewood will travel to Columbus to obtain extradition papers for Mrs Kaber and then proceed to New York with a woman deputy as required by law. The New York statute mandates formal papers for release despite Mrs Kaber waiving extradition.
The White Star steamer City of Toledo carrying 400 Waite High School freshmen, 60 Perrysburg High School students, and about 200 others arrived eight hours late to Toledo after engine trouble near Sugar Island. frantic search delays and anxious relatives gave way to relief as the ship limped past the Terminal Bridge with band and crowd cheering.
In Mexico City the Virgin de Los Remedios statue was moved from Los Remedios village to the cathedral for several days of devotions to end a severe drought. Thousands accompanied the image as the Archbishop of Mexico led the ceremony. Impoundments at Necaxa hold only weeks of water, and the city faces further water rationing and illness linked to the drought.
Fire broke out at 12 30 in an office building in Pittsburgh's downtown business area. The blaze between 106 and 113 Wood street destroyed the Fairbanks Scale Company offices, the Pittsburgh Office Equipment Company, and the New York Wall Paper Company. Loss estimated near 500000.
Two dams at Beaver Creek near Florence went out sending flood waters toward Pueblo. Ten to fifteen houses were washed away with no loss of life. In Las Animas four Mexicans, including three children, are dead and many more are believed drowned as the Arkansas River overflows surrounding the city.
