A sudden wind and rainstorm near Selma caused a derailment on the Pennsylvania line. The brakeman’s lantern failed when signaling an oncoming west bound freight, leaving cars piled high. Engineer John Highland and fireman J P Gallagher, both from Cincinnati, were badly hurt with Gallagher most seriously injured.
In Paris on June 2 Mrs G Steindler of New York was severely injured when a racing car driven by a Belgian named De Deyn collided with the lead car of a twelve American party en route to Versailles. Her husband was slightly hurt and other passengers escaped injury. Mrs Steindler was taken to her hotel in semiconscious condition.
In New York nine teen branches of the striking Longshoremen's Union revised the demands from earlier months. They propose 35 cents for day work and 50 cents for night or Sunday shifts, aligning with a prior compromise with Savannah and Morgan Lines. Tomorrow new demands will be submitted, reducing original asks to the compromise levels for transatlantic lines.
