About 15 000 Indians stormed Bombay's Wadala salt depot breaking a two mile police cordon in what leaders called a final raid. Police reported 40 arrests and 25 injuries as troops repelled the attackers while 9 women were detained. Police kept troops at posts to bar a second sortie.
In Peshawar an accidental rifle discharge by a on duty Lance Corporal at Kabuli gate sparked a mob after a mother and her two children were shot. Seven dead and nine wounded as police and troops fired in self defense. Bodies taken to nearby shops after clashes.
Rangoon Burma June 1 The Conciliation Board established by the government reports an agreement between Burmese strikers and Hindu dock workers to resolve the dispute that recently led to fatal rioting in the city.
A southwest gale of up to 65 miles an hour swept Northern New England causing two child deaths and widespread damage. The liner Cleveland and the steamer Milwaukee faced trouble in Boston and Rockland harbors as the storm blew ashore. Three year old Shirley Elward of Cambridge died when a skylight bulkhead blew off, and 14 year old Catherine Kelliher drowned at Fort Meadle Lake in Marlboro after a canoe capsized. Nancy Carroll and her husband Jack Kirkland were rescued by a Boston fisherman after their yacht developed engine trouble near Minetoa Light while sailing to Marblehead.
Louisville June 1. Rogers Caldwell of Caldwell Co Nashville and James B Brown Banco Kentucky president announce Banco Kentucky takes half stake in Caldwell Co creating a financial group with combined assets of 615 million. The firms control or own substantial interests in banks in Kentucky Arkansas Tennessee and insurers Missouri State Life Southwestern Life.

Mrs. William Moxley aged 40 and her five children perished in a Glen Echo Maryland blaze. William Moxley, a park police officer, escaped with burns after attempting to rescue them. Children named were George 15 Linda 11 Gordon 8 Hileen 5 and Bessie 3. Fire officials speculated an overheated iron or stove may have sparked the fire. The Glen Echo Amusement Park suspended operations as a mark of respect.
Fire at the State Hospital for the Insane in CEN BRAL ISLIP New York destroyed a three story attendants dormitory. Seven volunteer firefighters were slightly injured as the south wall collapsed. The blaze lasted about two hours. District Attorney Blue was investigating possible incendiary causes for prior fires.
Detroit June 1 Stanley Zerambo senior inspector of the United States immigration patrol at Detroit drove an automobile into the whirling propeller of an airplane to prevent escape of the ship and the two aliens aboard. The propeller and a wing were damaged the auto radiator and windshield broken. The pilot escaped on foot while the passengers Agriazo Taled and Zara Cheveson were captured and will be deported. The ship was the seventh alien smuggling plane seized by Inspector Zerambo.
Mrs. H C Coe a New York reform figure announces she rejects prohibition and will join a new anti national prohibition group led by Mrs Charles H Sabin. She cites constitutional concerns and says she will retire from the W C T U aligned group and support repealing the Eighteenth Amendment.
In a gun battle near a Chicago hotel dining room and a Detroit suburb, two patrolmen Erhardt W. Meyer and Claude Lanstra were killed while pursuing rum runners linked to a Canada liquor cargo. Three suspects, Frank De Mercurio, his father Sam De Mercurio, and Frank Salfone, were arrested as authorities seek a Flint Michigan man.
In a midnight ambush six men linked to the Terry Druggan faction were shot through a hotel dining room window at the Manning Hotel on Pistakee Lake near Fox Lake. A Chicago lawyer's wife and others were wounded, including Druggan. the attack follows the St Valentine’s Day massacre and signals a wider gang war in Chicago.
Henry Charlope, 41, of New York City, died from injuries after a collision on U S Route 42 near Sharonville. The incident marked the year’s seventy-ninth highway fatality in Hamilton County. Several others, including Mrs. Elizabeth Gilbert, 21, and Violet Phillips, 21, were injured or killed in related crashes and a separate self-inflicted incident occurred nearby.
Two young boys died after injuries from stepping on a rusty nail and a splintered plank. Keneath Pyles, 4, of 1224 Dandridge street, contracted blood poisoning and died at Children's Hospital. Edward DeBord, 9, of 354 Williams avenue Lockland, died at Bethesda hospital after a wood sliver entered his foot.
The swollen Red River broke through its levee in two places along the island district between Alexandria and Boyce, flooding about 3,500 acres of farm land. No human or livestock deaths were reported as crews failed to hold a 40-foot wall of water, creating a 15-foot crevasse and a second breach downstream. Cleanup and defense measures continued as river levels rose.
Ernest Johnson 20 of Akron is hospitalized in critical condition with multiple stab wounds after an alleged confrontation with Frank Dugan 45 of Newport News in Neville Ohio. Dugan is jailed on assault charges following the street fight after a disputed lift and drinks spillover.
Bishop James Cannon Jr of the Methodist Church South defended his failure to report 1928 Virginia Anti-Smith Democratic expenditures and questioned the Senate Lobby Committee's authority to probe political spending.
