In Syracuse New York the iron arches supporting the Erie Canal over Onondaga Creek collapsed. Four canal boats swept into the creek as fifty feet of Empire Flour mill walls fell. Boats and cargoes are total losses and traffic is halted for days.

Premonition Guides Clifton Springs Official to Death
James T. McHugh secretary of the Clifton Springs Distilling Company died at his residence 3444 Evans Place Clifton yesterday after a stroke of paralysis. He had been a fixture at the Chamber of Commerce for twenty years and remained active until health failed. Born September 22 1859 in Cincinnati he rose from Western Union to lead the Clifton Springs firm. The death followed a sudden premonition by his wife and a rapid decline after medical diagnosis.
