A Reading Railroad Express collided with a Pennsylvania Railroad excursion train four miles from Atlantic City on July 30. Secretary Carlisle replies that coinage would shift currency to silver basis, with checks and drafts paid in silver dollars, while the government would not guarantee parity with gold.

A massive storm in Steubenville and Glouster area caused extensive flood damage. Homes were wrecked and a family of ten narrowly escaped. one boy aged 12 was found later after briefly going to the Panhandle dump. Bridges, rails, and a shoe shop along Fisher's Run were washed away.
Bellaire Ohio July 30 a powerful storm brought hail wind and heavy rain flooding mountain streams and washing away county road bridges. Bridges washed out and trains delayed as damage spread to farms and railroads across the Ohio Valley with several buildings struck by lightning.
A flood from a cloud burst at 3 p.m. washed out bridges between East Liverpool and Wellsville halting C P trains for hours. Water twelve feet high swept Tanyard Run and Carpenter Run, flooding cellars and wrecking houses and stables with crops and livestock destroyed and lives lost reported.
A violent cold front swept through Chillicothe and Jackson causing havoc as residents reported a rapid, mile a minute travel of storm conditions. Special Dispatch notes the night was marked by extreme chill and wind, with damage feared in both towns.
