Five Dutch Ships Sunk by German Sea Wasps
London reports five Dutch fishing vessels sunk eighteen miles from the Dutch coast between Scheveningen and Leagen by a German submarine. A British submarine captured the German steamship Batavia II, later sunk by sea valves after a prize crew could not reach port. The Batavia II, 1328 tons gross, had been seized June 24 1916 and held in Zeebrugge. One half of its cargo was confiscated as contraband.
