President Taft pressures tariff conferees to abandon the bill by demanding adherence to his views on lumber gloves hides and leather goods. He declines to indorse the measure unless his conditions are met, while the Republican platform is shown to be carried out.
On July 29 the government seized a second Zepp tin airship after rigorous tests. The airship conducted an ascent during a thunderstorm period and reached a notable altitude before custody.
In White Plains New York July 3 1924 prosecutor Jerome finishes a grueling ten hour inquisition into Harry Thaw in the supreme court. Thaw endures rapid questioning while his mother Mrs William C Thaw issues remarks through a brief interview as the session stretches late into the night with defense and prosecutors preparing for further proceedings.
The body lies in state at Memorial Hall on Bim Street from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with public access. A 1:30 pm funeral will follow with English and German sermons by Rev. Frank Nelson and Rev. Kingston July 29 The defunct Scioto Valley bank now in receivership shows efforts to settle with Nelson Dresbach who deposited cash and notes totaling about 20 000 while his own accounts show large overdrafts and notes. Dresbach denies the stated accounts, the receiver reports creditors may receive about 30 000 once claims suit filed by Oct 18. Cashier Nelson Gartner surrendered to authorities pleading not guilty to a false report charge and was released on bond.
Representative Bartholdt of Missouri updates President Taft on the Mississippi journey from St Louis to New Orleans. The president will reach St Louis in late October and address events there and at Houston for a four day river trip with dates set for October 25 and 26.

Government bonds bank stocks notes and insurance policies valued at 28000 were stolen from the safe in the Louisville Coffee Company office on Sixth Street between Main and Market. All papers belonged to C We White president. The thief entered while office force was present, secured the package, and fled.
Spokane reports a large anticipated homestead registration across the Spokane Plathead and Coeur d’Alene Indian reservations with nearly 300000 expected names. Superintendent Jones Witten announced 9500 names will be drawn.
