Akron Ohio July 28 Anna Brocker a domestic at Wendel Manigold’s residence told police a negro entered the home choked her and stole $20 from a bedroom. She later confessed she took the money and inflicted throat marks to prove her lie.
John Driscoll of Steubenville Ohio lost both legs while attempting to board a Panhandle freight near Mingo Junction. He is reported to be dying from the injuries suffered this evening.
In Portsmouth Ohio on July 28 Tom McKee, suspected dynamiter, was captured after detectives traced threats to a woman linked to McKee by intimacy with Mrs Basham. She confessed writing a decoy letter. McKee evaded decoy tests but was seized by officers near the river. Defence by Hon T C Beatty faced delays.
The Phoenix Hotel in Lexington changes hands as ex Lieutenant Governor Mitchell C. Alford and D. F. Frazee acquire ownership from receiver held since 1894. J. Hull Davidson signs over 1,500 shares. the partners previously bought 1,500 shares years earlier. The hotel has hosted many famous antebellum figures including Lafayette Henry Clay and President Jackson.
In Indianapolis, Special Judge Hammond announced he will appoint a receiver for the Union National Savings and Loan Association amid a pending suit. Havana dispatch notes Spain offers $24,000 for aiding seizure of filibustering steamers and $9,000 for aiding capture of larger filibustering vessels. Decree promises immunity to seized ships.
New York reports three thousand pants makers joined the strike today, bringing the out count to about 22,000. Tonight the children's jacket makers allied with Socialists said they would quit tomorrow. They cite grievances and deny sympathy motives.
In Jackson Kentucky on July 18 the Ku Klux Klan began terror acts at Howards Creek. They supposedly hunted women of questionable character, forcing them to seek refuge in the mountains, then began firing into the homes of peaceful, respectable citizens.

In Parkersburg West Virginia on July 28 a street car with two horses bolted on Lynn street hill. The driver fled leaving the animals free and passengers jumped to escape. Most escaped with minor bruises but Mrs. A C Arthur suffered serious injuries and may not recover after the car derailed into a curb.
