The United States plans a defense budget of seven hundred million dollars for 1917 with the Senate approving a four hundred million dollar allocation also noted. The measures reflect wartime preparation and funding priorities as the session advances.

The two other admirers are said to be on the Mexican border with Illinois militia. The catheter found is not proof of guilt and no intent to kill is shown. Bail may be delayed due to vacation term.
Special dispatch from Valparaiso Indiana reports Frank Butterfield overboard while boat riding on Sager's Lake with Miss Lillian Stanett. Butterfield drowns after pulling her under. she is rescued and in serious condition. Stanett's home is Dowagiac Michigan.
