Seven giant gas balloons lift off from Kansas City led by Kansas City III with Dr Milo Hartman and Miss Violet Davis on a honeymoon leg toward Stuttgart Germany for the James Gordon Bennett trophy. St Louis IV fails to launch due to multiple holes and is deemed unsafe.
Two balloons started from Kansas City and passed west of St. Joseph at 7 30 p m The Cole sent a message from St Joseph noting wind at forty miles an hour and elevation at 700 feet It said the Cole reached St Joseph in under two hours and that two other balloons were visible while gaining Savannah Mo later reported sighting a balloon about six miles northwest of town likely the Cole.
Thomas Heilfield, 26, of Springfield Illinois, died during a parachute jump at Meyers Lake Canton Ohio. He fell about 1000 feet after slipping from a trapeze rope he was hanging from as thousands watched. The tragedy occurred this evening drawing a large crowd in the city.

The New York Titanic relief committee announced its final report to subscribers. It had raised $21,150 from New York Stock Exchange members. only $10,600 was used and the rest, $10,550, was returned to subscribers with each receiving back half of his original contribution.
An explorer and companion are missing after an expedition to Greenland. The surviving crew member states the pair were last seen during the northward journey and are presumed in danger while their ultimate fate remains unconfirmed.
Copenhagen reports Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen and engineer Iversen arrived at Aalesund after 1910 expedition to Greenland. They endured famine, lost dogs, and wintered on Shannon and Shamrock Islands before rescue. Mikkelsen earlier pursued a crossing of Greenland and may have wintered along the northern coast.
