An electric express train from Liverpool to Southport struck an empty stationary train at Hall Road Station. Twenty three people were killed and many injured. The crowded first car was smashed beyond use and only six escaped. The line had recently been electrified.

Bishop Joyce Dies After Sermon in Camp Meeting
Bishop Isaac W. Joyce of the Methodist Episcopal Church died at his home 310 Groveland avenue Minneapolis at 1:20 AM from a cerebral hemorrhage and paralytic attack. He was 69 and survived by his widow and son Colonel Frank M. Joyce. Previously he led Methodist overseas missions in China and Japan and served as presiding bishop of the missionary field. He preached at Red Rock camp meeting on July 2 and had spoken in many countries. He had been in Minnesota six years and earlier served as pastor in Chattanooga and Cincinnati.

Death closes Earthly Career of Dr. Ebersole
Dr. Jacob Ebersole, 85, longtime Cincinnati physician and veteran, died peacefully at his Avondale home after a storied life from Eaton Ohio to Aurora Indiana and service in the Civil War. In Amsterdam New York on July 27 six Italian laborers were killed and three others likely fatally injured when an accommodation train struck workers on Track No 1 after they moved from Track No 2 to let a westbound freight pass. A sand-dumping crew of about one hundred worked on a curve. high winds stirred sand, obscuring the approaching train.
