James R. Keene reports a violent race riot breaking out in Illinois. Injuries and property damage are reported as authorities strive to restore order and investigate the confrontation between opposing groups.
Special Despatch reports no new failures on the New York Stock Exchange after two hours of trading. Rumors of a broader purge target big firms, including Keene brokers and Talbot J. Taylor, amid talk of a wrecking campaign to push prices lower. He was released by order of the U S Department of State after a bond posted by Citizens Trust and Guaranty Co of Parkersburg W Va. Authorities say the case lacked sufficient strength for extradition.
