Paris reports the ministry’s decree dated July 25 removes General De Negrier from the Supreme Council of War and as inspector of four army corps after he angrily censured the government to corps commanders and urged action if the government failed to defend the army. In Paris the Cabinet named General De Allstein to command Paris military forces replacing General Pellieux. Captain Villeneuve faces sixty days rigorous arrest for anti Dreyfus sentiments. Esterhazy to be summoned for trial at Rennes court martial with safe conduct granted. Pellieux reassigned to command the Forty fourth at Quimper.
Rennes July 25 Seventy witnesses were summoned to testify before the government commissary in the Dreyfus court martial. Among them are ex President of France Mir Perier, former Ministers of War Cavaignac and Billot, General Zurlinden, General Chahnain who succeeded Zurlinden, General Rogel, General Boisdeifre, Colonel Picquart, Colonel Du Paty de Clam, Major Count Esterhazy, M. Lebon, former Minister of the Colonies, M. Hanotaux, former Prime Minister, M. Paleologue, Mme Henry, and Mile Pays.
The two battleships Kearsarge and Kentucky are about 92 percent complete with eight inch guns ready to be mounted on upper turrets. The contractors have called for the guns in preparation for a speed trial anticipated in September.
Ah Yu of Shanghai, a landsman who joined the navy in 1884 and was once attached to Dewey’s flagship Olympia, received a pension of $30 a month for lung trouble. This makes him the first Chinese pensioner of the government.
A thunderbolt at a barn near Napoleon Ohio killed Daniel Hane 19 instantly. Eight others in the thrashing gang were knocked senseless and the same bolt started a fire in the barn. Two of the injured will probably die, leaving a deadly mark on the event.

The safe held about 500 dollars in gold and silver plus jewelry worth nearly 1000 dollars. The burglars escaped with the loot leaving the victims bound. the son freed his mother by biting through a cover as neighbors’ fury grows. Police suspect local culprits and promise summary justice.
Denver reports a Pioneers' Society plans a $60 000 endowment for Bob Womack the Cripple Creek Canyon discoverer who helped open Cripple Creek's goldfields yet profited little himself. Womack worked as a cowboy in 1877 and hailed from Poverty Gulch where he first spotted gold.

Bishop Horstmann urges restraint and obedience to law.
Riots broke out as night fell in Cleveland with clashes between soldiers police and alleged strikers. Cars carrying guards were stoned at Broadway and Pearl streets while mobs of about 2000 men and boys fought with bayonets fixed. South Brooklyn saw incipient disturbances but guards contained the situation. Mayor Farley invoked emergency powers from an ancient law to designate himself as county police commander.
