Buffalo reports fourteen killed or blinded by wood alcohol poisonings linked to a saloon and an alleged bootlegger. Police charge three suspects with homicide as federal agents raid about fifty places, seizing thousands of bottles and detaining 125.
Hamilton Ontario July 24 five persons were arrested amid rising deaths from poison liquor. One arrestee William Maybe died of alcohol poisoning after arrest. Ten deaths total include Mrs. C Foreman and seven more in Oakville Hamilton. Officials probe if a single poisoned shipment links Ontario and Buffalo cases.
In Lansing Kansas tonight two prisoners were reported killed and Capt Manatt a prison official stabbed during a clash at the state prison.
London July 24 George Bernard Shaw the noted dramatist who turns seventy Monday has declined to get excited about birthday honors. He left town this afternoon and will remain in seclusion over the weekend. He will not speak on his birthday until Monday evening when he returns to London for a dinner in his honor.

John Philip Sousa has been enlisted by the army to assist in improving its bands. A study of instrumentation is being made in the Office of the Quartermaster General. Sousa says the Guards' Band of Great Britain is the best he has seen.
San Francisco July 24 Col Ned M Green suspended as Prohibition Administrator for Northern California and Nevada after orders from Washington. Liquor seized from his Hotel Whitcomb room, as government agents collected a varied assortment. Green says indictments will prove he did not misuse government liquor and asserts he only hosts friends who drink with him.
Lande pilots Victor to victory over top rivals in the three year old championship race at Goneyland. The powerful colt Son of Man o War continues his ascent as he defeats the best horses in training and secures a marquee Derby win worth 525 000 dollars.
Crusader a three year old colt by Man o War and Star Fancy dominates the first Cincinnati Derby at one and one quarter miles before a capacity crowd at Coney Island. Display finishes second just three lengths back with Boot to Boot third and Carlaris fourth. Crusader breaks the track record in 2 02 earning 20150 with Display and Boot to Boot sharing the top prizes. East triumph as invaders lead the field in a race catching national attention.
O B Logan a 53 year old former farmer from New Liberty is held on a murder warrant after slashing his wife’s throat with a pocket knife. A nine year old daughter witnessed the attack as the assailant fled toward the Ohio River and later returned. Logan who had been released from a state asylum for the insane at Anna was captured by citizens and jailed in Golconda leaving four children motherless.
Chicago July 24 The confession of Robert Scott who has life imprisonment for the Maurer killing says he and not his brother Russell fired the shot that killed the young drug clerk. Attorney Stewart says the confession was against his advice and cannot be used in appealing to the State Supreme Court.
Augusto Casellato, a Milanese swimmer, was seized by a shark near Genoa in the Mediterranean this morning. The creature dragged him under before his companions could help, and neither his body nor the shark has been seen since. The event unnerved thousands of bathers along the Genoa coast.
Eleven men including five Queen City Driving Club officials and six track employees were indicted on gambling charges connected to the Coney Island race track. Bonds set at 1000 each pending Monday arraignment, with early trials aimed to start soon.
Port Colborne Ontario July 24 traffic in the Welland Canal halted when the steel steamer Lake Gradan bound for Detroit wedged in the top lock. Five tugs struggled to free the vessel. The ship was bought by Henry Ford for scrapping.
