Bomb in a preparedness parade kills six and injures twenty one as panic spreads. Wires in Berlin report no progress and London notes a stalled British drive.
Six people died and twenty one were injured when a nail and dynamite bomb in a suitcase exploded on a street during a preparedness parade in San Francisco. The blast wrecked a saloon front and tore through crowds as police warned of the danger yet many cards failed to avert panic.
The German War Office announced repulsed British attacks on the Somme and French attacks near Verdun. It claims Entente plans failed, notes German trenches held, prisoners captured, and continued artillery duels with losses to the enemy. Also reports on eastern front actions and unchanged Balkan situation.

In Sandusky Ohio aviator Elmer Stroud and mechanic Otis Cline were injured when a plane starting for Johnson's Island dropped into Sandusky Bay four miles out. Cline suffered a leg injury, Stroud a facial cut. Savanack and Wilbur unhurt. The aircraft fell from about seventy five feet. a motor boat rescue saved the riders.
The Post Office Department ordered condemnation of the site at the southeast corner of North Walnut and East Locust streets Wilmington Delaware for a Post Office Building Representative Warren Gard secured an order for establishment of free mail delivery service at Germantown.
