Seoul dispatch reports the arrest of senior advisors and officials after a plot against the throne. The deposed emperor allegedly influenced the current ruler to oppose a cabinet proclamation, while two villas of ex-cabinet members were burned and foreign guards faced refusals.
Mrs. Mary Emery applied for a building permit for a $100,000 Gothic parish house for Christ Church on Fourth Street between Main and Sycamore. Plans show a six story facility with an auditorium, clubrooms, kitchens, libraries, bedrooms, gym, running track and locker rooms for church activities.
Karl Hau, a Washington DC law professor, was condemned to death for the murder of Frau Moliter in Baden Baden after a five day trial. Crowds roared in support of Hau while police restrained protests against the Moliter family. An appeal was signaled by his counsel, Dr. Dietz.
State Committee members meet July 30 in Columbus to decide whether Walter Brown loses the chairmanship for overstepping authority. The plan, pushed by several members, would replace Brown with a new leader as they accuse him of speaking for the entire committee. Supporters of Taft, including Arthur I Vorys, expect the Taft resolution to pass if introduced.
Lexington Kentucky July 22 Mayor Tho A Combs issues a proclamation directing every un employed resident to report to farms or the city rock pile. Rains ruin wheat corn and tobacco as a work drive expands. Women and college students join harvest. Combs arrests a crowd of loafers.
The Hague July 22 The special commission formed on July 11 to draft a proposition on laying mines met in secret. The session showed sharp divisions among British and German delegates with Italy's Count Tornielli proposing an adjournment on Saturday hoping a vote will be taken.
Special Dispatch reports East Liverpool Ohio began prohibition tonight as saloonkeepers and wholesalers held bargain sales. The church bell tolled as residents rushed to store goods before shipments tomorrow. No arrests or drunks were seen though residents fear economic fallout and reduced deposits at banks.
In Halle Germany on July 22 a fatal pistol duel between students followed a quarrel during festivities. Walter Lipsky was killed in the exchange.
Fred H. Magill and his wife Fay Graham Magill left Los Angeles by train with Sheriff Campbell to Clayton, facing a murder charge in the death of Magill's first wife. Magill proclaimed his innocence and spoke of the distress the scandal would cause, calling it ongoing and burdensome.
In Wellilla Morocco on July 22 forces of the Sultan clash with the pretender near the town. Sultan troops attack from the landside while the gunboat Sidiel Turk bombards the enemy from the sea.
A severe storm in Hamilton Ohio brings hail the size of walnuts and a deadly lightning strike on a threshing machine at the Thomas Clear farm near Flocton. William Sheppard 169 Campbell avenue is killed and son David Sheppard injured. Percy Sheppard near death in Mercy Hospital. A nearby home on Sipp Street is also badly damaged.

General R. B. Brown of Zanesville travels to Columbus and Indianapolis to push a new state pension bill for indigent veterans and widows. He seeks Governor Harris and Colonel Currey support, with township assessors to collect veteran data to aid pension work. If approved, Brown may stay in Columbus during the session to push the measure.
New York July 22 a rug importer H.8 Tavshanjian a Persia World Fair commissioner was shot dead while walking in Madison Square. A bystander was wounded as the fugitive fled and was captured after a chase. Police name suspect Pheros Harpasseormian of Chicago who said he killed to save his country.
A. Lansing Baird, former assistant manager at Brown Ryan Williams, shot himself in Central Park today after months on the run. Police sought him on charges of misappropriating thousands of dollars and passing worthless checks. He left a wife in New York.
In Boise Idaho on July 22 E F Richardson argued for four and a half hours to jurors regarding William D Haywood. Sessions were held at 6 pm due to heat. Dr I T McGee faced perjury charges, Orchard testified at length, and Co W Aller bound over for district court trial.
Mrs. Martin Dowdy of Carter County died after a forked stick pierced her hip during a runaway horse incident in Lexington. Her husband assisted by cutting the stick with a pocket knife before extraction as the horse bolted and she tried to jump free.
Eureka reports 157 of 249 aboard the Columbia escaped when the steamer sank near Shelter Cove between midnight and 1 am. The George W. Elder towed the San Pedro to Eureka with 107 passengers and 37 crew. A relief effort by citizens, led by Mayor Ricks, organized clothing and medical aid.
